Not in a rush, but does this kit look like the full XENON upgrade kit fot he FJ62, square headlights.

It looks like the housing is a dummy shell made to use the H4 bulb, and a a H4 KIT it used.

Can you just order a dummy 4x6 shell like that and order an HID kit?

I can power them off the 2nd post of the Optima Battery right?

Why does this set off warning bells in my head? That price seems way too low for them to be quality product. Have you read reviews about them, or have any other information from other sources?

If they are good quality, and the beam pattern isn't all weird, I'd be interested in a set of the round ones for my 60.

True HID systems are illegal to sell in an aftermarket application. Either it's not a true HID kit, or they're based outside of the US.

Anyway- I have a set of Hella lights on my 60, in combination with a set of Hella FF1000 driving lights, and it's way more light than I need.

Thanks for the linkage, casey. Looks like I'm back to my original plan -- Cibie/Hella E-code inserts and 100/55 H4 bulbs for them. That oughta be plenty bright. :D

sourcemine: Read around the site in the link casey provided. The main HID page has a comment about the larger hot spot in HIDs vs. halogens. A regular 4x6 insert would not address that, and you'd probably end up with a really s***ty beam pattern, which would be a real waste of money!

Not to set off a war, but Slyvannia (sp?) has come out and has been out with a DOT marked HID unit, for Jeeps, Checy and Ford applications that does include low/high beams. They ae not cheap and I forget the name of the company. I know for a fact they are not illegal also since a friend has them and they are also made here in the US and marketd to the US crowd and had to pass our state inspection to get a sticker. So, they are aftermarket and are allowed, but without a low beam then they are not going to have a chance in hell when it comes to hids.

The aftermarket "kits" that install HID into an existing halogen lamp are the illegal units.

The price is good. Maybe the beam pattern is marginal to meet DOT specs? I still get flashed in my Audi, which has xenon low beams from the factory. Folks are complaining about them.... the same thing happened back in the 70's when halogen replaced tungsten lamps.

I bet the pattern is quite nice with the sheild modification listed on the second page is performed.... or maybe not?

Looks as though the X6024 7" round lamps are the bad version... others, like the 4 x 6" may be better?
