Anybody use one of those kits that makes the Hi-Lift a hand winch? Do you think its worth it?
I wheel alone and dont have $$ for a winch yet, figure one of these could make my Hi-Lift even more versatile than what it is now.

Thanks,

you can use it as a winch without any kit. But easier admittedly. If you have 2 chains with the skinny hooks you're golden.

I bought one of those kits off of Ebay cheap enought to get it just in case. I've not used it yet, nor my 60" Hi Lift. If you do a search on the web for Hi Lift Jack Tips, you will find some really good info on how to use a Hi Lift. The kit is kind of gadgety and not a "Must Have". You will still need some other stuff, chains, straps, etc. anyway so you might want to get the other stuff first and try the jack by it's self.

no offense, i don't know about you, but it sure is nice to have the right tool for the right job....makes life that much easier which can be a godsend when the wife & kids (or girlfriend) are waiting on you to work your recovery magic....

check out Bill Burke's video, "Getting Unstuck" for some excellent how-to info on using the Hi-Lift along with all of it's accessories:http://www.bb4wa.com/products/DVD.htm

Thats actually where I first saw that kit was on Bill Burke's Video and it had me wondering if it was a good addition to my Hi-Lift. I know you can hand winch without it, but I was curious to know if the pieces made it easier.

A quality come-along is a much better winching tool than a high lift.

If you really want to use either, I would recommend a length of aircraft cable and a cable clamp (allows you to pull from any length along the cable.

Stinky, I have a friend who bought that kit from Hi-lift. He never really looked at it or tried it out. Then one day he got stuck on a small incline, had a good area to winch from and found out the kit is incomplete.........it doesn't have all the pieces to do the job. It was missing one section of chain.

So Buy the kit and practice with it before you get stuck. Same thing as the jack, play with it and try at home, Jack up and push the vehicle over to a new spot........etc.

Cool, that is good info. LOL... and I thought I would practice in my lot. I wasnt sure if it was a complete kit to winch with, or if it was accesories to make it easier...

The :princess: Pops got one of these for his snowmobile. It is a shame they haven't come up with something like this for the trucks yet!

Cool Hand Winch
