Thank x2. I probably should have mentioned in my first post that I am female :)

I'll talk to the "Hubcap" again about the tire carrier. He wants me to be a little more frugal on this project. I'll start that way...we'll see how it ends up eh??:)

Cheers - Bebe

Tire up top is great if you can get it down (down is not bad, it's up that is all the fun - if you can't roll a big tire off a roof rack you certainly can't muscle it off a tire carrier) and don't constantly carry gear. Having to swing out a tire carrier every time you want to use the rear hatch is the biggest PITA...but then again, you have an H3 :flipoff2:

Most people probably swing out that carrier a thousand times for every "expedition" they go on, unless we count mall expeditions, in which case the ratio may be closer to 1:1 :D

Seriously, there are options that cost a lot less money than buying stuff off the shelf, and that could include a bumper with tire carrier. Do you have access to a fab shop or is "bolt-on" a requirement? If you really want to get built without spending a lot of money, the 80 series aftermarket is going to be difficult, because it is a low volume market. Custom fabricated solutions can be very financially attractive if you have access to a good shop and know what you need.

Well, the H3 tire is mounted to the door. The door swings out sideways (and is a bish to close on any sort of slope with 35's).

The H2 has a swing out gate stock. And after wheeling with a bunch of them, I liked the rooftop idea better.

But hey, I'll have the hubby do some reading and let him think he's making the decision ;p

Nice '95...

Bebe,

Welcome.

Looks like you already know what is going on with regards to wheeling.

I live in the Monterey Bay area and actually have a couple of good freinds who live in Rocklin.

If you are interested, I can let you know when we go up to the trails in your area and you can tag along to get some 80 wheeling under your belt.

Hmm, I grew up in Freedom.....

Would love too!

I have some trips in the other wheeler but will be clear in the last couple of weekends in Feb.

Is anyone going to Cal4wheels Winter Fun Fest???

Don't know about the Funfest but the last couple of weekends in Feb sound good, many trails clogged with snow though.
Where do you prefer up there? Besides the Rubicon, that is. :D

Where in Freedom did you grow up? I grew up in Aptos, actually.

That's probably why I did not recognize the name :D Haven't been back in a very long time. Sydney Ave.

What about a trip to Hollister???

That's where I cut my H3's teeth....

Welcome!

Just a quick note on the sliders: Slee's sliders do not have any protection for your cats. I would recomend MetalTech sliders as it looks as if you will use them! Congrats on your new rig. If your ever up in OR, let me know. I'll be happy to show you some trails around here.

MetalTech slider(sorry for poor pic):
