I have read where pre 85's require input and output shaft mods, would like to get opinions about this swap. I am interested in a better crawl speed and wouldn't mind the increased hiway speed. I currently run stock 2F with 4.10's on 33X12.5. Want a solid "expedition-type" rig. thanks

It's a great swap and I've done it on my 84. You have to change the length of your driveshafts. Big deal-$75 each at a driveline shop. Everything else is good to go including the crossmember and rear mount.

I also run 4.11 gearing, and 33 inch tires. It's perfect for the FJ60.

What month '85 ? My 5/85 required no mods. I think 4/85 is the change over point...

edit: Note to self: Read posts more closely ....

You might consider rebuilding the T-Case since you will have most of it apart anyway. The parts are around $200.00 and you will need access to a shop press, pilot and regular bearing pullers and gasket seaters. An air impact wrench helps too.

Are the splines different between a 4speed and the 5speed?

No, just the length. They use the newer flange pattern and may require that you swap flanges on your driveline. Not a big deal considering you will be changing the driveline length anyway. It is well worth the effort, it transforms the rig from usefull to extremely capable.

When you say flanges you mean the drive shaft flanges? Would my stock fj60 T-case bolt up to it?
