Just wanted to see who may be going to Cruise Moab this year with a mobile HF setup. I will be. Hoping to get on the air when I leave from Home in Denver and get some rare Cruise Moab DX.

Maybe pm BJ_FJC. Haven't seen him around here much lately, but I'm pretty sure he's going to CM, and I'm sure he'll be taking his HF set up along...

Can you operate HF Mobile?
What bands?

I am setup to cover 80M through 70CM. Just made a contact with Spain EA1ABT on 3-2-09 on 20M. Got a 5-9 signal report. I still have a long way to go before I am setup to my liking.

I think I saw a post of his with his setup a week or so ago. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm guessing phone/voice not cw - correct?

If so, let me know when you're heading out and I'll start looking for you on 20 or 40 meters, phone.

20M voice, correct. I will PM you when the etD is more certain. The Spain contact came in fast, and as soon as I worked him he was gone.

I am running a Yaesu FT-857D barefoot to a Hi-Q 5-80 Remote tuned antenna currently with a Radio Shack 102" whip on the top. It is in my FZJ80. Vehicle is bonded (ground straps all over the place), L-matching coil at the base, and I have a N2VZ Turbo Tuner for completely automatic operation or a Ameritron SDC-100B as a backup for manual Remote tuning. I also opted for the LDG FT-Meter used to augment the small meter on the readout of the 857/897 radios with a larger needle meter. Helps with seeing SWR and power readings. It really is starting to work well. Still have lots of beads and ferrite cores to put on, some capacitors and the like, plus make the install permanent.

What does your setup look like?

Good call Norm...

I’m just in the process of installing another radio in the truck:). My girlfriend is just completing her licenses so I will be leaving her with my portable station.

Right now I think I will have 20m and 75/80m Voice/Digital mobile HF capabilities.

SquamSquatch VE7IDQ will also be heading down a few days after me and I think he will have 20m mobile HF capabilities

Guess we should look at setting up a schedule and pick some frequencies. I'm planning on heading down April 22nd

I will be monitoring 20 meters during the day around 14.250 MHz and would like to setup a sked for 1700 and 2100 UTC. I will also be attempting to check in to the BC public service net and BC/Yukon NTS Traffic net on 80 meters daily. Band conditions permitting I should be available for contact after the nets.

I think that will work. We'll keep chatting here 'till go time...
