Hey I'm Mike, new to IH8 but heard about it for some time now as I've always wanted to own an FJ since I saw one way back in my days on Oahu where I grew up. Now I'm in Hawaii, yeap for 12yrs now so it stuck and I'm happy with it so far. So last week I tried to purchase an FJ62, but before I could drive it away the brakes gave out and I didn't make the deal with the seller. Longer story there but suffice to say I'm very remiss about the whole thing.

Basically I don't know !@#% about how to fix or rebuild engines or anything in btwn.
I've owned a couple of late 80's Celica's, the most I've ever done was change the oil filter and oil. I'd like to learn how to tear down and rebuild a Toyota LC. Even if it's someone else's. At this point that's all i can afford to do, which is to offer to help others.

Request and the facts:
I live in Brooklyn, NY. Crown heights to be exact and would like to offer to help others with their LC project and just learn anything I can. If anyone out there is in need of some one who's fairly handy and can tell the difference between a metric wrench vs. standard please shoot me a DM. I'm willing to come to out to some places in Queens, Brooklyn, and even some of Long Island. Also if there are any other suggestions on what I could to do start picking up more mechanic skill for my future rebuild I'd appreciate the knowledge. I've tried to look for continuing ed classes in the area for motor repair but alas nothing for the novice middle age dude with a day job.

Got atleast 1 or 2 friends on here as well, hi @dahlmaker who just picked up his FJ62 and possibly one buddy with his FJ80 both located out in California unfortunately for me. Otherwise I'd be over their house right now instead of at my desk on a summer Friday.

Ok that's it, hope this finds you all well, and the summer is treating you good.

Thanks,
Mike

Here's a few pics of the FJ62 that almost was for me but didn't happen. She was rusty but I was sure it wouldve made for a great project, only 180k on engine! 89 FJ62.

I agree, I would avoid that part of a rebuild. I purchased my truck in Albuquerque and did not look back. Still rust free.

I occasionally work on my truck but due to NYC space constraints that's less frequent. I'm getting my driveline checked out and if it warrants a service I will do that on my own and would love a hand. Thanks for the offer @SonofSarpy

Welcome! (5 years overdue)

Welcome to Mud. If you do have questions about vehicles and want someone to look at local trucks shoot me a message and I can maybe help you out. I am nearish for the time being
