Herculining the inside of the tailgate?

Good afternoon.

My tailgate is alternately a duck cleaning station, fish cleaning station, a bench, and a step for my two Boxers. Needless to say, the carpet on it is not an ideal surface to keep clean. I was thinking of tearing off the carpet and putting Herculiner on the inside of the tailgate. Has anyone ever tried this?

I did it about two years ago.. I just used two spray cans of crap-o liner from the local AutoZone. I removed the carpet and all the white plugs that held it down. I scratched the surface up a little and sprayed the liner on.
