He has a 1996 TCL with 120K on it and has a CEL.

"I have had a check engine light for some time now that comes back to a catalytic converter with my hand held scanner."

Any adivse for him would be appriciated.

I told him O2 sensors were suspect.

I just got back from the local auto store. My CEL came on this am the scan said that O2 Sensor Slow Response. So now I need to shell out some cash for them, great!

Catalytic code is most likely a bad downstream O2, an air leak between the O2 sensors or a bad cat.
