I bought a used 07 land crusier recently. I took the vehicle into the dealership for the first time since I bought the vehicle to have them do a once over. They stated the following issues needed to be fixed.
Valve cover is leaking oil
Steering rack needs to be replaced.
Serpentine belt needs replacement
Are these issues common to the vehicle with the Milage of 107k?

Should I be worried that the vehicle will give me more trouble later?

Thanks for the help!!!

My leaky steering rack was replaced at about 125k in my 06. Serpentine belt is questionable, but easily determined by taking a look at it. Not sure about the valve cover. I think I've read something about the covers leaking before, but not too sure.

Lol is this your first used vehicle? Next time get the inspection done BEFORE you buy it.

And to answer your question, they are all common issues. Maybe a little soon for valve covers gaskets but you never know. Theres no telling when what will need repairing.

The serpentine belt should have been replaced with the 90k service if I recall correctly. As for the valve covers, it doesn't seem to be a common issue, but it shouldn't be too bad (I'd do it myself). As for the rack, it might be a bit early, but not unheard of.

Fix the issues and make sure the 90k service was done, and you'll have a very dependable vehicle for a long time.

Those all sound common. My valve cover gaskets started leaking at 70k easy job/fix.

The truck is about ten years old, it will need maintenance.

I'd snug (not too tight) the valve covers up, the bolts walk out pretty easily. If it continues to leak, buy a new gasket from Beno and replace it for cheap money.

You could see/hear if the belt needs replacing. Another easy task after getting parts from Beno.

Steering rack, you'll need to give us more info and I'd post pone that until absolutely needed. The bushings are an easy, $50, fix. And drain, replace the fluid.

While you're ordering some parts, get some oil filters, transmission fluid, some coolant and heater t's.

Serp belt is 10 minute job, as mentioned you might be able to torque cam cover bolts to stop leak, What's wrong with the steering rack?. Doesn't sound like a bad truck if that is all they have found, remember it is nearly 10 years old so a bit of preventative maintanence to bring it up to scratch would be expected.

I'd get a 2nd opinion on the rack. Serp belt makes sense and the valves might need to just be retorqued to maybe hold you over for a while, but the rack so soon?

The steering rack boots were torn and is leaking fluid pretty bad.
Thanks guys. I'll try to do some of it my self. But I think the steering rack might be out of ability range for me.

Dealers will never let you leave without recommending thousands of dollars of "needed" service.

That's right. I did the same as you when I bought my 2002 LC back in 2009. The dealer also recommended I replace my steering rack since it was leaking, along with a bunch of other stuff totaling thousands of dollars. I did not replace my steering rack and 7 years later, it is still working fine. Not to say that it won't need a new steering rack eventually, but take it to a trusted independent mechanic for a second opinion.

I just had my 100 in for an AC check before an upcoming trip. (AC is one of the few things I don't usually mess with). While it was there for an hour or so, the dealership service department found $645 worth of additional work they claimed it needed. I knew the entire list was pretty much profit pack and had all been recently completed. I don't mind dealerships taking care of vehicles and recommending service that's really needed, but go in with your eyes open and your bull*(&^ detector on the high setting.
