Anybody know what is happening here?

2011 LX, took it to the dealer for seatbelt recall (no problems, one visit) and did the 120k maintenance at the time: AHC fluid, transfer and differential fluids, etc. Replaced rear pads and one bad rear caliper, flushed brake fluid.

The next morning I notice the front right wheel is rusty. Odd but did not really investigate, figured maybe turned brake rotor dust or something. Washed the car properly today and found it isn't dust, it's genuine rust.

Other 3 (stock chrome wheels) are as before, showing some miles but nothing like rusty.

What in the world? Any ideas? This was not something happening over time, it happened instantly. Probably right after the service.

Looks like something they used or did spilled and has oxidized your rim. Have you contacted them yet?

Drop the spare down from under your truck and check to see if it has a pristine rim.
I’d wager it’s beautiful...because it used to sit in your front corner spot.

Looks to me like a lot of very hot brake dust or at that point maybe hot steel dust (if brake pad was worn down to metal) from sticking caliper imbedded itself into the chrome and after being exposed to water started turning to rust... seen that before on different vehicles. Most likely the Dealer rotated the tires / wheels while servicing the vehicle.

Dealer says this. Can't imagine how I didn't see it before the service. Oh well, no great mystery then. Time to get out the cleaners and a whole bunch of elbow grease.

I heard what you said about the spare being a different brand tire, but I think we are all hoping you drop it down and it looks the other three on the ground.

A drill and wheel polishing tool/pad makes it a much easier process FWIW.
