Ok a few quick and easy questions:

1. does anyone have a link to a guide on removing the front dash on a 91 landcruiser? Specifically, I'm replacing my speedometer cable and I want to make sure I can get to the back of the speedometer the easiest way. It looks like I can probably just remove the bottom portion.

2. I'm using these instructions: Birfield Repack to rebuild the front axles and regrease them etc. I'm at the point where I need to get the axle out, and according to the instructions it says: "the axle can now be safely pulled out. Note, the steering MUST be in the straight ahead position and the flats on the birfield must be in the vertical plane" Can anyone elaborate on how to tell if the flats are on a vertical plane or explain it to me a bit better? I am not sure what he is wanting done.

3. Also, does anyone know of a link or a copy of a 91 cruiser manual online that I could access?

Thanks for any help you guys can provide. And, if any of you are near Mauldin and want to see it in person, please invite yourself over, hehe

2. Just grab the birf and rotate. The birf bell has two flat sides to it. They need to be a 12 and 6 O'clock.

3. Master Portal - forums.bauchan.org/Toyota Workshop & Repair Manuals

Josh I'm in Mauldin.

PM me if you need a hand. Never taken a 80 dash apart but hey JP, Chuck and I changed a 62 tranny in 6 hrs so anything is possible.

haha, ok that was a lot easier after I pulled the bell out a bit. I thought I had to rotate it before moving it at all, :)

I got everything out and cleaned and ready, now I'm just waiting on the replacement seals to arrive and I should have this all buttoned up.

I have another set of dumb questions though:

1. The heat shield on the exhaust underneath the driver's seat was rattling like crazy so I just took it off completely. Any idea how much I will regret that as the summer approaches?

2. Is there any way to tell if the cats are clogged? I can see the back of them no problem, but based on where they are located in the bend of the exhaust, I don't think I will be able to see the fronts even if I remove the exhaust completely. Any suggestions?

The reason I am looking is because I get only 9 miles to the gallon and I am thinking I should get at least 11 or so, but maybe its just the non-road tires and the old age of the motor in general.
