I need some collective help here guys as to the best way to paint my cruiser. I have a HJ47 ute that has minimal rust but the paint is the original and is in the most part, just in need of a good paint job. so far I have been busy taking my panels back to bare metal to get them ready for priming.

while I have been doing that I ordered this from eastwood:

http://www.eastwood.com/concours-lt-hvlp-paint-gun-1-3mm.html

so now I guess it is time for the primer. now is where my questioning begins. firstly what is the best primer to use? any suggestions? bare in mind that I do not have a fully decked out work shop with extraction equipment to do this in so... also how many coats?

the paint code is 532 but will I need to change it a little? (the roof is T12??)

as you can see I am a complete newbie to this sort of thing and I reckon some of you are already laughing;)

I'll try to post up some more pictures sometime, this one's the only one I've got at the moment (not really relevant).

looking forward to hearing what the experts have to say and thanks in advance for any advice.

cheers

Eastwood has an etching primer that you'll want to use, and I'd recommend that you just follow all of their directions.

I am no expert but have helped paint a few cars and my FJ60. If it is truly down to bare metal, make sure you clean it real good with a wax and grease remover. The use a scotch brite pad and go over the panel your going to paint. Again, wipe it down. For primer, use a quality epoxy primer. It will seal the metal really good. After first coat, block sand it down with about 180 sand paper. Wipe it down again. Second coat of epoxy sealer. Sand with 320, third coat of sealer. Sand with 400 or what ever is close, and again sealer. I'm sure some one who is more professional will chime in. Then you should be ready for paint.

thanks for the great tips guys, I am quite busy at the moment but i'll try to have something done by the end of the weekend.
