a need a centered rear end for my FJ40. I have been thinking about a stock pickup rear end. The FJ with have an LT1 and 700r4 with 35" tires and won't see hard core wheeling. I think that 58" wms will be good so that puts me at the IFS ones right? which ones were the strongest? I hear these little axles are pretty stout and can hold up better than 44's and even dana 60 30 splines.

These things are not bad. Quite strong actually.

Anyways, look for an axle out of a 3.0 V6 or Turbo truck. Some of those axles are 4-pinion and a little beefier than the standard 8" axle. Be careful, some of the V6's have the regular 2 pinion axles. The 2 pinion axles are fine but I'd look for the stronger 4 pinion ones. Most of these axles will be 4.10 gears but some will be 4.56 if the truck was originally equipped with 31" tires.

If you don't like the gearing or you want a locker installed ship the 3rd to someone who can set it up for you to install or drop it at the local shop who you trust.

Kenai how wide is the stock rear?

If a chevy 14 bolt or ford 9 inch will fit either would be a sturdy rear. Alot of chevy 14 bolt rears have 4:10 gear ratios. I think most ford 9 inch had 3:73 or something like that (I dont know much about fords).
