Hello all,

One of my buddies will be fabbing me a new bumper for a wedding gift. So, if anyone would like to attach some pics of bumpers, I can come up with something. Thanks guys, Geoff

There have been a couple people here who have fabbed some really nice bumpers. A search should come up with a couple build threads. Good luck and congrats on the wedding.

i'll try to find some pics of my bumper that i have designed(not built)(

Cody, if you have iPhoto just select the photo and click the email icon. You'll get a dialog box asking what size you want to mail. Click "compose" and you'll get an email with your reduced photo.

Of course you can aslo use the File-> Export and specify a size there too.

But it looks like you did it already.

HTH,

sweet! thanx for that! heres a pic of the first bumper i built for my cruiser. looks too bulky and was way too heavy.

second is of the aluminum bumper i built for my Ford. Ya I know its not a cruiser but to give you an idea of the changes i made from the first.

Third is a pic of the new cruiser bumper without light bar before Soa.

Pic on next post is after SOA.

Nice Work Cody

You can add "chick magnet" to your FJ's signature line!

What do you want your bumper to do? Do you drive in the vicnity of suicidal deer and/or elk? Planning a winch? Or maybe a snowplow?

Can't help ya if we don't know what you want.

thanx heartworm, The 1/4" aluminum bumper has steel frame behind it for support and for the fairlead. A steel bumper or ARB would be better for "suicidal deer" but i went with aluminum for the weight and rust factor. My winch is mounted to the front crossmember and i had to notch the front sheetmetal to mount the winch. I will probally also add some aluminum to strengthen the bushbar later as welll.

Here's the thread on my front bumper build:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=77311

Everyone assumes a front bumper. But rear bumpers with tire & fuel can swing outs are cool too (check out 2badfj's thread about a rear bumper he recenlty made). Maybe you can talk your friend into a matched set. A front for you and the rear for your new wife...

that bumper is badass 2MBB, on my second bumper (Ford) i had the side angled parts of the bumper to far from the center, and it looks too bulky. on the third bumper i made them much longer with a narrower center section. But yours looks like a nice balance between the two.

Also where did you get those plastic pieces that line the front of your fender and what did they cost? They look good with the silver paint!

Cody C: nice looking bumper. Is that the exhaust pipe beneath the door or am i mistaken ?

ya it's undr the door, you can see the hushpower muffler there as well. I meant to run a new side exhaust from the new muffler, but up higher and out of harms way but i didnt have any more time before i left to new zealand. That'll be another project for when i get home.

I have a design on paper myself. I will try to get a photo of it to you. It would be cool to see someone else build it too. I probably won't be able to start building it until this coming June...but we'll see. I am debating whether or not to build around the original bumper, but that's the way I'm leaning right now. The design integrates more of a brush guard to protect around the head/turn signal lights and is pretty heavy duty in terms of taking an impact. Of course, you hope this will never happen, but.... when you least expect it.

personally, i don't like how most 60 bumpers hang so low.
i think the bottom of the frame rail should be the lowest point. up and out of the way.
