Hello, I'm a British Columbia Cruiser head. I own a 1980 FJ45 Long Wheel Base. I have a major problem with the 2F Motor (due to my own stupidity) and seeking advice. I believe the Block is cracked. Now, I'm wondering if it is worth looking for a 2F or would it be fairly resonable to switch it to a 3B Diesel. Or is it worth selling. It has Brand new Master brake cylinder. Any Reply would be greatly appreciated.

If you like your 45 then the easiest thing to do is find a replacement 2F. Check out the for sale section on this forum and you will see that 2Fs are not that hard to come by.

If you don't like your 45, by all means sell it. There are plenty of people looking for your type of cruiser.

Replacing the engine with a similar one will be far easier than comverting to diesel.

there's a couple complete 2f's for sale in BC right now, ( and probably more that folks have given up on trying to sell...)

https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=131645 here's one

I'm nearing the end of a 3b and 5speed conversion ( among maaaany other things ) to a 45, it's a bit of a pain, but not that bad if you get everything you need from the donor vehicle.

45's are great trucks and seem to be really sought after these days so I doubt you'd have any trouble selling it.(but you really shouldn't sell it just because of an engine issue, that's easily replaced.)

whereabouts in bc are you?

cheers,
ryan

give cory a call at Kodiak Custom Vehicles 604 817 0510. He took out my 2f and he has tons that are just taking up space. Personally I would find a 3b and throw that in with a 5 speed. That was my plan until I stumbled on a cummins...but that is a whole other story. Jason

Keep the 45. You'll kick yourself the second you sell it.

Yeah, don't sell it... 2F's are easy to come by and easy to rebuild. The body on your's looks pretty nice, my concern is always the body, I feel the mechanical stuff is the easy stuff to replace, body and paint on the other hand is expensive and time consuming.

Nice 45! Keep her!

i think you should hang on to the 45 for about 6 months and then sell it to me when im back home:grinpimp: but seriously if it were mine i would really think about finding a donor 60 and dropping the 3B in it, i would love to do that with my 40 in comming years...

Have you done anything yet?

I live in Prince George and travel up and back there every two weeks in my 78lpb (the red one). If you find something down here and set it up right I might be able to bring it up. PM me.

The 45 do not like the 3B but love the 2H that was a factory setup in 1980 and the 5 speed came factory in 84 thru 85 the last year is was built

have to disagree with that one. nothing wrong with the 3b in my 45. not like it's a big difference weight wise with a 45 over any of the other trucks it came stock in, like 70's or 60's....
