ha guys im at the garage and on my computer dig.anyway can not get my check engine light to flash either on snap on scan tool or by reading it yourself is this normal if there is nothing wrong,or do i have computer problems im really stumped here:confused: if anybody feels like calling or respond to my post i would so greatly be in your debt.:D 304 337 8931 my name is chris

Have you jumpered the two terminals in the pin block on the fire wall? Instructions are in the FSM. That's how you get codes to flash up. If you've done that and have no flashing, then there are no codes stored in the computer.

Why are you checking codes - is there a problem?

srpeaking of codes

while i was channel surfing this am i saw part of a bit on checking codes with an HP IPAQ pocket PC. did not see enough of how they did it.

has anyone done this / knows how to do this?

ya there has ben a lingering prop. yes i crossed the 2 over.on restart it misses cusses backfires.then about a 1 mile or so it 80 wise clears up still lacking a little power. it has perfect fuel pressure checked the thermostat sensers.they seem to work even though my tem. and gas gauge jump and come right back down, new fuel pressure regulater, fuel pump and filter coil, plugs cap and rotor .my question is if your checking the codes with the check engine light and it never blinks at all of course with the ig. on i see it lit.but the scan tool the check engine light did the same thing .never blinked but was on.sorry dont meet to rant:D

thanks for your responce:cheers:

When you turn on the car without having the TE1 and E1 jumped does the check engine light turn on at all? I think it is supposed to stay on for a second then turn off. If it doesn't maybe the bulb is burned?

Also, if you have no codes stored and you try to do the self diagnostic by jumping the pins the CEL is supposed to blink constantly, if it doesn't blink at all I think the jumping methond was not successful and you should try again. If there is a code it will blink in a sequence indicating a code. Good luck.

yes the light stays on when the switch is on.but as long as you leave the ig. on it stays on you start the car it comes on then goes off .iget the same thing even on the snap on scan tool zip nothing at all. i done it again 1 hour ago same thing

book says no igf signal to ecu 6 to 8 times in succession.dont have any idea what that is

I don't have a Toyota manual for the 3FE, but Haynes says this means the problem is in one of four areas:
Ignitor or related circut
Ignition switch or related circut
Ignition coil
ECM or related circut

Next step is to troubleshoot each of them. Any chance you've worked/replaced one of these recently? If so, I'd start there.

If I follow you correctly, you have three codes: 14, 41 and 51. I don't know a lot about the 3fe, but from the list of trouble areas, there are quite a few potential problems. TPS is one, so is ECM, etc. You need to start eliminating some of these, I'd choose the easiest ones first. Since you replaced the coil (one of the possibilities for code 14) make sure you double and triple check how you installed it.

ok started pulling plug wires today dam if i did not pull 3 off before i got a bad miss.ist one was #3 no difference at all then #2 noticed a diff.then pulled#1 then i noticed.some blue spark and orange seems real strong
