Last week I did the usual oil change and tire rotation. On my way home I noticed a slight pull to the left that wasn't present before I rotated the tires. I didn't have time to look into it before I went on a short trip over the weekend and WOW did it drive like crap. There was not only a pull to the left but a pretty good shake at speeds over 65 MPH.

Like I said before, none of this was present before I rotated the tires and I've never experienced anything like this after a tire rotation. My wife says she "doesn't remember" hitting anything. I'm pretty sure she would have remembered hitting something hard enough to cause this.

Any ideas as to what I should check? Any ideas would be great. I'm still learning all this maintanence stuff.

Thanks.

Also, I just purchased some motorcycles and an enclosed trailer. Total weight about 3600 lbs. Is there anything special I need to do while towing. Like what gear should I be in or anything like that. The owners manual was pretty vague on the issue. Thanks again.

It may sound silly, but is it possible that there is any mud or debris on the inside (axle side) of the rim..? I was "muddin" and when I sprayed the truck off, a little chunk of mud fell down and rested inside the rear rim..it wasnt until I rotated (back to front) that I noticed a slight shimmy in the steering wheel...I thought "what the hell did I do ?" ...and then looked around and saw the little chunk hiding in the rim..scraped it out, and it felt like new again.

Regarding the pull...as long as the tire pressure matches closely on both front tires..The pull would be mystery to me.. (unless there is an obvious imperfection in the tire)

Just one of many possibilites.....

Buck:

My guess is that you had a bad rear tire and when you rotated it to the front, you are now experiencing the failure. Look at the inside of the fron tires and see if you notice and bulges.

Also, wives tend to not disclose things they hit ( :

did you include the spare in the rotation? that could do it if it was deformed while under the truck for a long time.
In any case, on my 80, I had a strong pull to one side which disappeared when I switched the 2 fronts. One tire more worn and older than the other I guess.
So, not that surprising really.

I haven't included the spare in the rotation, not the same brand. I'm going to try switching the front two if I don't find anything in the wheel after inspection. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for the advice.

On the towing issue. Are you saying to drive in 2 and not in D? When I was in 2 the RPM's were screaming. It freaked me out so I stayed in D. Or are you talking about the little button on the shifter itself. Just press that? I know it may sound stupid but I've never really towed anything and I don't want to fry anything.

Thanks all

The overdrive button (the little button on the shifter). When it is out, there should be a light in the dash that says "overdrive off." That's how you want to tow. The transmission in "D" drive with the overdrive off.

overdrive is your 4th gear so to speak

Thanks all. I appreciate you clarifying. The wobble and pull is gone. I have no idea what it was, probably something in the wheel.

Thanks again
