Hello,

Haven't posted in a while. I need help. I have a 1999 100 series. I used the Slee grease tool made to grease your knuckles spindle bearings and now I can't seat my cv axle enough to get the snap ring on the exterior of the flange cover. Also, there is a wobble felt when driving the vehicle on that front driver side that was greased. I have a feeling i used too much grease and the hydrostatic pressure is preventing it from seating as deeply as necessary. Also, I think maybe the grease dispersed unevenly in the bearings? I'm not sure. Hopefully somebody can give me a few pointers as I don't know how to proceed. Thanks for reading and thanks even more for some help.

Are you driving it without the c-clip on the end of the CV?
yes. yes, unfortunately i did do that. Only for a quick test drive in hopes somehow it would help seat my cv axle. desperate move...

Well, that's probably your wobble the hub is walking back and forth on the CV. Do you have the right load set on the bearings? You can thread in a bolt on the end of the CV and pull everything outwards to try to get the c-clip to seat. Additionally, there's 5-6 different thicknesses of c-clips from Toyota, you may need to go to a thinner one. You can order a pack of all of them from Cruiser Outfitters.

Trunk Monkey has your answer. Last time I replaced my front bearings the c-clip needed was a different thickness than the one removed during the procedure.

Thanks for the response! I didn't touch the bearings at all so I'm not sure what load they have. My cruiser drove fine before I pumped grease into the hub bearings. is it possible to pump too much in there? I'm not sure what I did. I will try and thread a bolt on the end of the cv to see if I can pull it outwards enough for the snap ring. thanks for the cruiser outfitters suggestion. I'll look into that.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get the cv pulled out far enough to get any c clip of any thickness on there. the grease seemed to pump the cv axle out of the knuckle far enough that now it's hard to get back in place.

Did you try raising the LCA up some which helps get the cv out further?

I have not tried that yet. I will try that tomorrow when I attempt to fix this. If I can't manage to get the snap ring on when it worked perfectly fine before, then I'm going to take the knuckle off and examine the situation in the hunt for the obstruction/problem.

UPDATE: i got the C clip back on! nice! driving it still feels a tad off...like there is resistance on that hub...maybe i need to recheck the preload after the lock nut was reinstalled...it could be a touch too tight.

I had this same issue on my passenger side replacing cv axles. Let it sit overnight and it moved out a bit
