Guys,

I'm looking for a shop near me that can help me perform this body mount trim. Toyota used the same platform to build the FJ as the Prada (some Euro SUV) and the body mount hangs into the wheel well which gets in the way of putting bigger tires on it. I would give it a try myself but with limited welding skills (and no equipment), I need to find someone that can do this for me. See pics below on the two methods being done on the FJ body mounts.

Hope the pics help with what my objective is. One guys cuts then fabs a new piece while the other just takes a "pie piece" out of the mount, pounds it back and re-welds. Either way, it allows up to 35's and takes away any rubbing issues when fully articulated (with front swaybar removed)

Thanks in advance for any references.

I'm going to show these to my 4wd shop and see if he'll try it.

But I've seen threads with people saying they just took a sawzall to it. I wouldn't feel good about that. But I wouldn't feel real bad about it the way I use mine. Baja? No. Mint 400? No. 1/2mph at Tellico? I'm not sure you could put enough load on that mount to collapse it. Might preclude going for long distance air but any sane driving I don't think would risk it.
I've also seen that rubbing has only occurred in extreme conditiions. I'm thinking that in the very slow motion wheeling we do how much problem could it cause you if it did bump?
But then I'm the guy whose truck won't run now because he blew the hack.

I think the first thing I'm going to do is put some masking tape on the mudguard and see how much of it gets worn off next time I go to the woods.
I'm going to put on 34X10.5X17 LTBs I guess. I'm asking for a quote on a wheel/tire package but I don't see any 16s that tall and narrow so it would still be the same tire I guess.

Reminds me of something I've been wondering. How come nobody does body lifts on this truck? What obvious thing have I missed there?
Or are people just getting plenty with the 3" lift and 33s or 34s?

Mostly, it could tear up the tires and be annoying. With the tires I'm planning, I shouldn't have any issues. Mostly want to clean up the wheel well just in case and/or if I want to get a taller tire.

re - body lifts...my guess is that nobody is making anything specific yet for the FJ and that the benefit isn't there. Better suspension (OME/AllPro/Donohoe) gives some lift with increased performance with spacer lifts both increase the COG and a body lift would only do that more which I wouldn't want to do. But, I'll bet we will see them in the near future...

No intention of hijacking, but I saw your FJC a few days ago (?) at High House and Maynard. That Demello bumper is awesome!

ElCerdoGuapo - thanks, waiting on some fresh tires to give it a bit more off-road capability. I was probably taking the kid to White Tiger if I was over there. I live not too far away from that intersection...

I noticed that you had plenty of space for larger tires.:D

Next time I see ya, I'll flag you down it traffic allows. I live right over at Old Apex and Cary Pkwy so I'm around High House & Maynard a bit.

I have a two-tone champagne (?) and gray 80, stock tires for now and some lights on the front bumper.

We are looking at a house for sale in your neighborhood. My wife and I moved here about 9 months ago and are renting in Cary, getting ready to buy now.

You do the cutting, drive it down to Greenville, and I'll weld it back up for you. It really looks like an easy job.

Tim
