Door ajar light started illuminating (dimly) today while driving. All doors are secure. Light will illuminate fully when you open a door. Then it goes back to dim after closing it.

Shut truck off. Take key out. Auto steering wheel easy exit functions ok. Open door to leave and "key on ignition" / " headlight on" chime is dinging. Nothing is on, keys in my hand. I can wiggle ignition and nothing changes.

Has new battery , put it on charger to be sure.

What could it be? Bad ignition switch? Bad cluster?

Other things I've noted. Over last 2 days, I've had 3 occasions where I had to click my drivers seatbelt in twice to get the seatbelt light to turn off.

And one occasion where I turned car off and removed keys and the headlights in ON position didn't turn off (should go off with ignition).

Any help or direction appreciated.

Bad connection on one of the plugs on the loom, water in a connector in the loom (sun roof, windscreen or roofrack bolts leaking), wiring loom rubbing thru near accelerator pedal.

Where is the loom?

I just ran a trickle charger on the battery (Lexus battery, I believe it was replaced before we bought it 3 months ago) for 45 minutes, it definitely took a charge. Problem has disappeared now.

I know low voltage can screw with electronics. Could it be? Vehicle has been parked indoors, 20F out, but I ran it through the car wash on Thursday. Hmmm.... Sunroof drains maybe?

Carpet is dry. All wiring on drivers side a-pillar base looks bone dry and intact.

Anybody have any other thoughts? I found 2 threads from a couple years ago with people having identical problems. One posted that "re-seating" his ignition cylinder fixed it (what does that mean?). Second person never posted if he solved it.

My battery is fully charged now, to establish a baseline. I can pull knee panel and make sure wiring is right into ignition cylinder, but otherwise have no ideas.

44" boggers with fj80 axles and diesel swap right after I figure this out;)

I spoke with a Lexus technician today, who told me to check a couple things:

1) Low voltage from battery
2) Ignition switch could be bad
3) One door switch could be flaky

I'll keep the battery charged and see if that is the issue. It has (knock on wood) not returned.

Just an update in case anyone else has this issue.

Have you tried just disconnecting the battery for 20 mins or so? Clean the terminals really well while it's off, then reconnect? That may reset everything.

I have not, I might try that if it reoccurs:)

FIGURED IT OUT!

Previous owner or dealership had replaced windshield and neglected to put the rivets in the side strips.

I have Safelite come out yesterday and replace the glass. 2 roof moldings were also not fastened correctly, and the base of the a-pillars was damp to touch from water intrusion. The tech did a FANTASTIC job, replaced it, sealed, etc. It fits much better now, moldings are straightened and should be no more leaks.

YAY!:)

How much $$$ (if you don't mind sharing that info).

I have a chip in mine that's been driving me crazy (had it filled once, but it didn't stick).

Thanks.

$289.95
+29.95 for local service call (45 miles each way!)
+ 6% MI sales tax

That's for the Lexus variety, and has lifetime warranty on parts, workmanship, etc. Quality looks to be first rate, and the installer did a super job!

Having the same problem. Why would rivets in the windshield cause this? It seems like it would be in the ignition switch... The door ajar functions properly it just seems like the car thinks the key is still in the ignition when you get out.

If the windshield wasn't installed correctly, it will leak water down the A-pillars or elsewhere, and will short out the fuse blocks at the base of the A-pillar. This is what was happening on my truck, the fuse block at the RH side had water on it after running it through the car-wash..........causing all kinds of random electrical issues!

:)

So I may just need to check the fuse box. I took the panel off trying to investigate the key cylinder but couldn't get the key cylinder out... Didn't want to break anything. I did notice the metal bracket under the steering wheel had rust. Wonder if I have a slow leak too....

Check it before and after an automatic car wash and you'll know for sure if you have a leak;)
