hi 80 series forums,

my name is Jon and i am a owner of a 97 LX 450. Ive had 4 other cruisers in the past and i really am enjoying my new to me 80. It is a 1 owner vehicle that lived its life nearby and was always serviced at the dealer. I'm in the process of selling my FJ60 which i will miss, but its a lot easier to drive the 80 with bad knees than a 60. I do have a picture of it, although its dirty and in the driveway, its still mine. Oh, it also has diff locks too.

I do have one problem, im trying to order some Wet Okole seat covers but they dont have a pattern for lexus 450 seats. Are 97 land cruiser seats the same dimensions and have the controls in the same spot? if anyone that has a 450 and has wet okole covers, what did you tell them when you ordered them, or if you have a lc are your seats the same as mine? thanks in advance for the help.

jon.

Welcome.....

There are plenty of LX owners here, someone will help you shortly I'm sure. I think they are the same, FWIW...

Jon,

FYI, that is not dirty and you're likely to catch some flak around here if you think it is.

:D

Welcome Thumper :flipoff2:

Nice rig. I think the seats are the same between the 80 and LX for 97. At least it isn't one of the differences that have been written up that I can recall.

You might PM e-bruiser. He's the resident expert on seat covers. Ask him what he'd do :D.

woohoo another lx450 owner

hi jerry,

im new too, so ill welcome you to the forum :flipoff2:

oh, a little update on the wet okole seat cover problem. i called a few places and from the information ive gathered it looks like that the only difference between lexus and toyota seats is the leather other than that, they are the same. dunno if i should keep checking or wait to find someone that has a lexus and a lc that have both bought/installed wet okoke covers.

jon.

Got mine from www.gtcovers.com (was greatcovers.com). Same stuff you would find at Toyota dealers (OEM canvas) - fit extremely well.

Just ask for LC ones (since they are well known, and more readily available); besides some business would charge an extra 'luxury' tax if you tell them you have an LX (spoken from own experience :) )

Welcome to the forum guys!
Frank.

Jon,
Welcome aboard :flipoff2:

What you've discovered is true. The only difference between the LX and LC seat is the grade of leather. All else is the same (all the controls are the same and in the same location). Get the covers that fit a 95-97 Land Cruiser and you should be set.

thanks

thanks doug,

i called a few shops and did more research and what you just said is the icing on the cake. i dunno whats wrong with those guys i wanna spend money and they wont let me lol. at least i can feel comfortable knowing i was right to begin with.

Welcome to the board Jon. Your rig looks nice and clean to me. But if Beo gives you any more $hit about being picky with the upkeep of your truck, ask him how to protect the paint job with Saran Wrap before your next wheeling trip. He'll back down. C-Dan might even grace us with photos.

jon --

i would definitely go with the gtcovers.com over the wet okoles -- the okoles (for me) got really hot in the summer, plus they seemed to attract dirt -- i am told by others that in ttheir old age they fade and crack --

-- plus, they look a little girly (my old man said they looked like they should be in a broad's car -- !!)

anyway, the gt covers are cheaper, look better, and are truly waqter resistant -- if you call them live over the phone, they can check and see if they have any old stock for you to buy at a discount --

-- i even got a GT cover for my chevy bus -- i love slipping on and off seats -- :D

:D

Wet Okele = Wet Rear Ends

I've used Wet Okele seat covers on my '96 80 for 3 years now and all is good. Considering I live in South Florida (82 degree's today, 3/14), about +/-1 mile from the beach and my backyard overlooks the Intracoastal waterway, these seatcovers work well. I bought the semi-custom cover - light gray in the middle - black on both edges to match my interior. I clean them with wet suit shampoo you can find at any dive/surf shop. Tons of sun, sand, wet shorts and bikini bottoms(Y) :bounce: salt, suntan lotion, oil, dog, etc and these covers save my expensive leather seats or ANY fabric or material - 100% waterproof. You can even clean them while STILL ON THE SEAT. The only issue I have with them is that they "puff" out a bit in the lower lumbar area and you sit a bit higher up than normal. Sorry no pics - hope this helps.
