Hi everybody. Please allow me to introduce myself, I haven't got wealth but I think I've got taste. Already have a 2012 FJ in the driveway and just got my hands on my Dad's old 2003 202,000 mile Landcruiser . Sadly, it's been sitting idle in my Mom's driveway for the last year just getting older and completely unused and run down.
Not sure if mom will want it back once I get things right or not, but I am going to try to make this rig run for at least another 200,000. I think she really doesn't want it and I'll be more than happy to pay her some money for it.
Anyhow, Mom says that the battery got drained because the lights came on by themselves. I think what had happened was the ignition switch was not completely disengaging (lack of use coupled with a new key because we don't know where the originals went) and the lights were left on auto and came on when it got dark. I had to really work that cylinder today with some CRC spray lube to get the wheel to lock and the tilt to raise when I took the key out. Great.
Problem that remains is a dim door ajar light. It goes dark when the key is removed. Checked operation of all door switches. Light goes bright when door open. Checked rear hatch, same. Opened up rear hatch mechanism and disconnected the wire. Predictably, the light stayed dim when the hatch was opened, but the bad ground I was hoping for never materialized. Reconnected wire.
Also the tachometer and oil pressure drop out for no apparent reason after awhile.
I've disconnected the battery numerous times hoping to reset whatever is causing these issues but the only thing I get is a tach and oil pressure reading for a few minutes until they drop out to zero.
The retracting antenna is played, but the motor still moves the rack up and down a bit. Don't think this has anything to do with anything.
I'm thinking that I can run the bugs out of the tach and oil pressure gages. Maybe.
Don't think I'll be so lucky with the door ajar dim light.
Anyway, the unmodded Blue Brute is a beast when sitting next to my wife's mostly stocker Iceberg FJ. The FJ has some real nice custom dropped and offset step/sliders that Mark at Metal Tech fabbed to my specs. More step than slider. Also has a bunch of real nice aluminum blue anodized bling from Joel up in Canada.
Hoping to be a Landcruiser owner and regular here. Don't really wheel much right now, but this old dog is not afraid to perform old and learn new tricks.
Any help with the electrical bugs would be really appreciated.
Thanks
-Larry
