hello from down under, 45?

Spring over conversions are illegal here in Queensland last time I checked:ban:Not sure about throwing in the full 60 series diffs though. Your hj 45 will have the 3.6 litre H motor, good donk but not quite as much guts as a 2H, plus it's harder to throw a power steering pump onto the motor. I'm in the process of getting rid of my 2 hj 45s and looking for a diesel shorty. (Anyone know of any good bj 42s for sale in and around central and southern qld in particular?) :)

You may have a clutch problem. Master not holding pressure or bad slave or the clutch is just worn out.

Hi again, Not sure what the motor is that is coming out of the 45, It won't take off up hill in first on the smallest of inclines.

Thanks
Andrew:)

My 1976 FJ 40 had the same symptoms when I bought it. It would not go up the ramps on my car trailer. I ended up replacing the clutch assy, master and slave. After I replaced it, I found the rear brakes were dragging a bit. They probably caused the clutch to go out.

Have a BJ42 LX here might be available Pm me.

Hi, As far as the mods go and qld transport, i am only doing an engine swap [one diesel out one diesel in]. I am hoping that they will just see the diffs as diffs and not a mod [especially if i don't mention they have been upgraded]. Just going to put new suspension under them.Time will tell. Where abouts in Qld are you herbs?
Had a good look at the chassis yesterday and there are cracks and rust everywhere. Is there anything that i can be doing to the chassis while i have it bare? Besides the obvious rust and crack repairs, is there any area's prone to cracking or twisting?
I am in the process of welding in a brace between the two front spring perchs. And will be adding a crossmember under the 5 speed.
Cheers.:)

G'day mate, I'm in Rockhampton, though I used to live in Baffle Creek, so I'm familiar with the Bundy area.:D As for your chassis, watch for cracks near the spring hangers and have a look at the rear crossmember where the towbar is, some hillbilly welded on the dodgiest towbar setup on my '80 model and the crossmember has a split.:frown: Added to this, watch for rust in the crossmember under the radiator and the radiator mounts in that area.

Cheers.

Hi Herbs,
I'm starting to think stuff the house renos, sell the 42 and cut the backside off the 105 instead. So for the right $ I'll let the BJ42 go. '83 3B and factory air

Whoa, nice 42, I'd definitely be interested in that, pm me your phone number if you like. She have the discs on the front?

Yeah thanks Herb, I have already found three cracks in the round tube cross bracing where they are welded to the chassis, and the inside of the chassis near the back of the cab has rusted through, nothing to extreme. Will correct that when i outboard the spring perches.Nice 42 Dave.

G'day mate. Site is working again now. I out boarded the spring mounts and used the original 40 front springs. Can't rate the mod yet as i'm still in the build stage and have not driven it yet. Have never driven it :frown:
Steve
Hi Steve, Where did you get the new spring perches from?:)

Hi uted, i thought as much. Bbm motorsport do make new ones, i have sent two e-mails with no result. Can you tell me what welding rods you used, what type and size? I have brackets similar to your i beam, mild steel t section. I will post some pics soonish [not too good on the computer] i have the 45 stripped down to the base of the cab on the chassis, and started to pull the front end off the 60. All is being done myself with the help of a engine crane [slowly] much to my frustration. I am managing half days here and there. And to make matters worse [for the build] i am off to melbourne next month for the arrival of my first grandson.
Thanks.
Andrew

All my suspension is just tacked into place at the moment . I was just using a 2.5 general purpose rod(what i had), but will be finish welding with a mig.
good luck with the grandson mate. my second grand child is due in december. god i feel old

Thanks uted, will do the same thing myself. i have the 2.5mm rods and welder, a mate has the mig. Suspension and brackets arriving this week so i will be putting in some big days for the next 3-4 weeks, before i am too old to do anything!? No i aint that bad not even 40 til next year.
Cheers.
Andrew.
