Hi All-
I’m the proud new owner of an ’06 dark gray Cruiser. I did a fair amount of research here before making the purchase, and I’m hoping to tap into the wisdom here and hopefully make a contribution when (wife permitting) I make changes to the current setup.
A couple quick questions for you-
Bug Shield- Has anyone had problems running the Toyota bug shield through the car wash? I’m not sure if I want to keep the bug shield but I’d like to avoid breaking it.
DVD/CD Player- Is there some trick to removing the cartridge? The previous owner left a CD in the player so I know the CD player works, but the cartridge won’t eject when I hit the button.
Ash Tray- Does anyone have a source for a replacement? $50 to Toyota parts online won’t be a great use of cash so I’m hoping I can find a cheaper replacement somewhere else before I place the order. Junkyard in Dallas, TX perhaps…?
Thanks!

Welcome!

I've got the bug shield on my truck. I used to think they were hokey, had one on my 80, removed it, and lo and behold, started getting tons of bugs on the windshield. I have one on the 100, have run it through auto car washes several times, no problems. Only problem I have had is if they don't put plastic over the rear wiper arm the rollers mangle it.

For the ash tray hit up CruiserDan on this board, he works in parts at a large Toyota dealership in NM and offers a discount to mud members.

No idea on your CD, don't have the changer in my truck. :meh:

Thanks Truck Monkey-

I went through the car wash earlier this evening and the cruiser looks much better. When I hit the dryer it started to vibrate pretty violently so I pulled foward quickly out of the path of the air. I lost a bug shield to a dryer ~10 years ago and I have bad memories. Besides- towel drying works better anyway!

I'm PM CruiserDan on your suggestion. The list is getting longer though- the previous owner did a number on the speaker grill covers so it looks like I'm going to have the pleasure of getting behind the door panels...

X2 on keeping the "hokey" bug deflector. It truly works on the 100. I had a car load of friends one time heading north on 27. They actually noticed all of the bugs flying over the roof and said it was the first bug deflector that they actually saw work properly.

Welcome!

Keep the bug deflector. Helps with the rock chips on the hood leading edge. The only rust on my truck is in the hood rock chips.

I'd go with a "Darwinian" plan ... If it gets destroyed by it's natural environment (car washes ect...) then it wasn't meant to be.

+1 - for Cruiser Dan as the OEM go-to guy.

Did you ever find a way to get the DVD carrier to eject? I am having a similar problem in our 06.
