Hello and a battery question

Odyssey!!!!! The only way to go. I have one in my wife’s 98 LC, one in our 89 Toy 4x4 pickup, one in my daughters 1st Gen 4Runner, one in my 05 Suzuki GSXR, and I will be putting two in my 98 LC I just bought as soon as the current battery goes bad. I had two in my F350 expo truck. I use the slightly smaller ones and fit two in the same space as one! Never had a problem, and it would turn over my F350 with the 460ci built motor like a mad dog!

In researching an aux battery for a 2-battery system, I have learned that the original factory size is Group 27F. Pep Boys sells a Bosche platinum battery in the size (these Bosche batteries performed well in the recent CR testing in other group sizes).

Don't know about CCA comparisons with the Die-Hard Group 35 batteries people are talking about.

This is what I found out as well when I called the two local dealerships that the 27F came in Northern trucks and southern trucks might come with a 25F........but this is just what they told me.

Appearently 27F is not a common size around St Louis as I had to call around 20 places to even fine one....not price them...just plain find one. They all had reg 27 series batteries but they are reverse polarity from what the TLC needs. It turns out that alot of American trucks run the 27, guess thats why they had tons of those here in the Midwest.

I ended up finding a 27F Die Hard from Sears in Nov and it has been absolutely great over the winter so far. It cranks up very quickly. It also came with a 60 month full replacement and a 108 month prorated warranty. Battery was only $119 w/ exchange.

Sears Platinum 31M Reverse Post Fits in the standard tray. They will be the standard 2nd batt on all my TOYS. Might have to go with a cheaper (relatively speaking) starting battery like the smaller Platinum's in the thread. Save ($35 each - will need 4)

Paul with Equipt1 had problems (more of a fluke) with the smaller Platinums during their recent (still ongoing) trip to Baja.

Rebadged Oddysey.

Interstate makes a 27F and, lucky for me, both of the San Antonio locations have them in stock. It runs about $115 with 750 CCA and 85 month warranty.

I am confused by the people quoting 1300 CCA from a Sears Platinum P-5 group 35 battery, the website clearly state 740 CCA..... I don't know that the extra 15 months you get with the Sears Platinum warranty; my factory battery only last me 6 years.

The cold cranking ampere (CCA) rating refers to the number of amperes a battery can support for 30 seconds at a temperature of 0°F until the battery voltage drops to 1.20 volts per cell, or 7.20 volts for a 12V battery. Thus, a 12V battery that carries a rating of 740 CCA tells us that the battery will provide 740 amperes for 30 seconds at 0°F before the voltage falls to 7.20V.

When I got 1300+ cranking amps it was done at 60*F at the Sears shop during install. They hook it up and check its ratings to make sure it is working correctly before letting you leave. Cranking Amps is the 1300 taken at time of installation....CCA is rating given based on measurement at 0*F for 30seconds.
