Ok, so at 148k on our 2001 I’m getting around to changing out the heater tee’s & hoses (along with radiator hoses, cooling system flush and refill). Really glad to be doing this work!

Got the tee’s and hoses off (thank the Lord for the Lisle Double Offset Hose Puller!) and getting ready to flush the heater core.

Any input on best way to put new tee’s and hoses back in? One piece at a time? Partially assembled? Fully assembled?

Have read through most all the threads multiple times recently but don’t recall a best install rec.

Thanks All!

I did mine fully assembled. I don’t have a point of comparison but seemed easier that way to me than messing about over the engine bay

That’s what I was thinking to do. The old parts don’t look too bad, will know more when I disassemble.

You're replacing all of those hoses, right? They need replaced. But similar to @matador454 I found it easier to assemble the hoses to the Ts first and then install on truck as an assembled unit.

Yep, all the hoses. My thought was to try it fully assembled but figured I’d get some input.

I assembled on the bench and then installed. Clamps CAN BE a bitch to position so don't clamp them on the T's until everything is on (leave them loose on the hose). This will allow you to make slight adjustments to hose angles and whatnot. Also gave me a reference of which ones go where.

Assembled and ready to go back in. Tees are actually in good shape, not soft or broken at all. Hoses are definitely swollen. @gregnash I’d already put the clamps on by the time I saw your post so I’ll fool with it a bit as is and go from there.

Yeah it is not absolutely necessary... just allows for you to position hoses a little easier without having to muck with things. Then you also have the ability to position the clamps too once you have everything set in place.

Went in just right, pre-assembled definitely the way to go. I had all clamps in place and pretty much positioned how I wanted them. Installed passenger side first - was very easy. The driver side was a little more difficult as the top hoses are shorter and there is less room to adjust. On both I tried connecting the bottom hose first. For passenger side this worked great as there is more ability to make adjustments to connect the other hoses. For driver side I tried the same but wound up having to connect the top two hoses first which made it a bit of a pain to connect the bottom hose and position the clamp.

Syl-Glyde is definitely your friend on this job.

Also, if I could go back and do it again I might have bought the spring loaded hose clamp pliers to reach the clamps more easily. As it was I Ihad a collection of pliers that worked (medium size needle nose, long straight needle nose and long 45 degree needle nose probably used the most). If there’s a next time to change these it will be a lot easier as clamps are now positioned for easy access.

Yup... same for me. And yes, forgot to mention that Syl-Glyde is your friend. I did mine with an assortment of pliers and vise-grip needle noses.

Guys I need to do this in the next 2 weeks. Thank you for your documentation of this process and photos!

question: if I change hoses when engine is cold am I going to have any coolant spill from old hoses?

Yes, but not much. Less than 1/2 quart, IIRC.

Do you have the part numbers for the replacement hoses? Looking to do this job in the next week or two.

@djgonzo007 Here are the hoses and tee's I ordered for my 2001, there are some different part numbers out there as noted between my post and @JunkCrzr89 's. The 99556-20200 hose showed discontinued by some dealer's online but my local dealer ordered it no problem - I think 87425-6A800 is the same hose but doesn't show that it fits my vehicle. These part numbers all came directly from my Toyota invoices.

(1) 87245-6A180 - hose
(1) 87245-6A190 - hose
(1) 99556-20200 - hose
(1) 87245-6A201 - hose
(1) 87245-6A210 - hose
(1) 87245-6A220 - hose
(2) 87248-60460 - tees

99556-20200 is the same as 99556-20155. The 87245-6A800 was a typo on my part: correct number is 6A200, not 6A800. This is the hose from T to rear heater pipe. But note that this is contingent on model year: 6A200 is for 98-02/99 and 6A201 is for 03/99-08/02. One is ~10mm longer than the other.

this s a PIA job - this time I used an old piece of insulting board to gain easy access to the clamps - made the job much better than the previous time I did it.......
