Heater hose routing F and 2F

How important is the slip on cover for the lower hose to the cooler. Pictured in the sor diagram? When I use it with new hose it really deforms the hose? I assume its some type of heat shield? Can I force open the half round clamp to allow the new hose to go through with that shield and then force it closed enough to hold it but not deform the hose.?
The original hoses where formed or did they just end up bent from use?

I would love to see the picture from troll hole in thread number 3 but it seems like it is no longer a live picture. I am looking for a few pictures of the hose routing both for the oil cooler and in and out of the thermostat and water pump to the rad.

My truck came with the rad in the back seat and no hoses attached (not no but few). Just having a hard time getting a good image so I can cut and route stuff properly.

There was a pretty good picture of rear-seat heater hose routing lately. Search should be able to bring it up, or I have good luck with google searches adding "site:ih8mud.com" to the search line. Then you can click 'images' and see all the picture results just from mud.

Sounds like you have most of your problems fixed. Thought I would post a couple of how I fabbed my '77 up-after cleaning the leaking oil cooler. Mine had a ton of open bolt holes in the firewall-prob. a lot of smog stuff that was removed earlier(was a Ca truck) got most of those all plugged up. In my case, it's more heat intrusion than the cold(since I'm in Fla.)

Did you make the copper hoses yourself? Those are very nice. My stock ones are pretty calcified. Thanks I see now that with a put together truck no good way to see the hoses. Thanks
