Hey everyone.

I was in the process of installing my new budbuilt sliders when I made a mistake.

Looks like a couple of bolts holding a heat / impact shield under my passenger side were rusted into the chassis. They both broke off when coming out.

The heat shield is protecting some part of the system or brake line junction. Any idea what the heat shield is called? Trying to find the bolt part number for these - I think it had an M12 head. Photos attached.

Probably easiest to drill them out and tap new threads. If you start with a small drill bit you might be able to drill a hole, then slowly increase bit sizes until the bolt comes apart. But if it’s rusted, you’ll more then likely need to drill it and tap a slightly larger size (maybe 1/2”)

Understood on the process. Just wondering the past number so I can replace it in case I get lucky extracting it. Can’t seem to figure out the right name for this cover.

If you have a welder, consider trying to weld a nut on to the remaining stud. I've found this to be the most effective bolt removal procedure, and it keeps the threads intact.

If you take the "weld a nut" approach, I recommend using a small copper washer or tube to isolate the remaining stud/bolt from the frame.

Seems to be a bit more annoying than anticipated to look through the drawings. Either I’m blind or the picture of the heat shield isn’t here. I’ve attached a picture of it circled in case anyone knows (otherwise I’ll just keep digging).

What year and model rig?

The bolts are 91674-80822

If the heat shield is OK but just the bolts are broken off, you can just grab a couple of M8 bolts from the local hardware store, should be about 20mm long. They will have 13mm heads on them, BTW.

But yes they will be m8x1.25 thread and about an inch long.

fyi I don’t think it’s a heat shield, I think it’s designed to reduce road salt and potential rock or debris damage to those lines.
