I’m getting ready to tackle a manifold leak on my 79 FJ40 2F engine, and I’ve been scoping out the parts I might need. I came across these two heat riser insulators on Spector Off-Road.

Am I correct that 12A should be used if the Heat Riser Valve is still functional and 12C if it isn’t?

Their site states that if I use 12C, I only need a gasket between 12C and the exhaust manifold, and no gasket is required between 12C and the intake manifold. Isn’t this just going to result in leaks between 12C and the intake manifold?

Is there a consensus in the community regarding the use of sealant when installing the new manifold gasket?

I have a header. I made a plate like "C" so that I could have a fluid heat riser on the intake manifold - carburetor ice was a serious issue climbing a grade in the fog. No longer an issue
