Hey, Everyone -

I'm a relatively new owner of a 2006 Land Cruiser, and have a few upgrades planned. One of those upgrades is a projector retrofit, and another is installation of my new ARB bumper which arrived the other day and is sitting on my patio taking up space. I'm inclined to go ahead and install the bumper to get it out of the way (plus I'm excited), but I wanted to check and see - is it possible to remove the headlights on these without removing the bumper? If I'm going to have to pull the bumper to get the headlight job done, I think maybe I'll wait on installing it until I can get these headlights upgraded.

I assumed it would be possible to remove the headlight housings with the bumper installed, but my brother has an ARB on his tacoma and tells me he cannot remove his, so I figured it's worth the ask. Hoping you guys will make my day and tell me that the bumper doesn't have to come off to get the housings out. Thanks!

Welcome the the rare '06 LC w/ARB bumper club, LOL! While I have NOT specifically pulled the headlights with my bumper on, I can't see where it will be an issue at all. Further, pulling and reinstalling the bumper is NOT complex and with a good floor jack can be done in just a few minutes even by yourself.

Of course a winch will make it a bit more complicated if you have one...so wait a minute on that!!

Thanks so much for the insight! That is awesome to hear - I think I'm going to roll the dice and install the bumper, especially since you note that removing/installing is easy. I'm pretty stoked to be joining that rare club, even if I don't have winch (yet anyway)!

The answer to your question if you can remove the HL assembly from an 06/07 may it be an LC or LX without removing the bumper is Yes. For an LC you have to remove the grille and side markers though, front bumper no.

Is that even true in the 06/07 where the side markers are made into the same assembly with the headlamp? I know you stated those years, but of course I don't have the option/ability to remove my side markers separately, so just want to make sure.

I'm pretty sure all OEM headlamps were in two pieces, regardless of year. They have main portion with low beam (plus high attached high beam housing on LX) and the separate corner light housing. The only lights I'm familiar with that are all one piece are the Chinese aftermarket units like Depo

Unless you cut the bottom mounting tab on 06 and 07 Land Cruiser head lights, I'm pretty sure you have to remove the bumper.

06 and 07 Land Cruiser came from the factory as one-piece plastic headlights.

I've heard of people cutting their bottom mounting point as a slot so that they can remove the headlights without removing the bumper, like this:

No kidding, learn something every day. What about the LX?

FWIW on my 1999 you can easily remove the headlights with the ARB bumper (the one with the protective bar) in place.
