One of the things I've found to be very annoying (and inconvenient) is the lack of a chime when I've left the headlights on and opened the door to exit the truck. There's a chime for key left in the ignition, but not for headlights left on.

I've left my lights on more than once (first time in the parking lot at the DOT where I went to take a driver's class to get out of a ticket -- how embarrassing is that???), and am sure it's going to happen again.

I've tried to get into the habit of checking it when I get out, walking around the truck, taking a glance over the shoulder at it as I walk away (which I do all the time anyway), but since I drive with my headlights on in the daytime, the probability is pretty high I'm going to forget again.

Is my wiring defective or does the FJ6X really not have a headlight reminder chime?

It really doesn't have one. You can get a buzzer at JC Whitney that will do the trick. It's on my list of things to do eventually. In the meantime, I'll wire my headlights to my second battery and call it good enough. ;)

correct, 1991 was the 1st year that got this DAMN anyoying feature.......but it is a good thing for the ladies :D

:D :flipoff2:

Personally that damn beeping gets on my nerves, is there a way to shut it off?
Sorry for the hijack

I have one of the JC Whitney kits. Wired it up according to the instructions. Works OK. But has a wierd side-effect...you can't turn the lights off once you've turned them on - you have to turn the engine off, then you can turn off the lights.

My sis has the same kit on her 62, and it works fine. No wierd issues.

I disconnected mine. Now look at it as a good memory test. If I can't remember to turn my lights off, then I deserve to suffer the consequences. (...of course I do have two batteries...)

It's an old vehicle, it's gonna have some quirks...

Unplug the buzzer!

Edit.....I was thinking of the door buzzer.......

I just unpluged mine on my 92, its in the DS kick panel, just open the door and follow the beeps

I am trying to find the beeper in my 100......its way the heck up under the dash.....but i will get it :)

I just leave the cigarette lighter out...theres a pretty bright light in the lighter receiver which reminds me that their on....It works real good when I'm too drunk to realize I left my lights on.

leave the beeping on, follow your ears under the dash or behind the kick plate, the peizo beep element thing has a little hole in it where the sound comes out,,,stick a small sharp screwdriver into the little hole and ream,baby,ream...it's really satisfying to kill that thing, As a bonus, the beep on my 60 resurrects itself briefly about once every 3 months ,,,just to remind me of how nice it is to have killed it.

most likely does not have reminder unit. i have 91 fj80 with same thing no reminder. i've searched all over and finally found unit though company called wiring products. phone # is 1-800-549-0243. unit is called headlight left-on reminder unit sells for $8.58. part # is a JT+T part number 7905F. hope this helps.

Blast from the past!!

ZCruiser: There is a thread or two on using a beeper from Radio Shack..even gave the part number and how to hook it up. One place to look would be in the large ongoing thread about Mods for Under $50.

Headlight Warning Buzzer!!!!!
I did it again!! I left my lights on after driving through a daylight headlight section of road. When I got back to the car the battery was DEAD.
I charged it up overnight and then drove to Radio Shack, I purchased a Mini 12v buzzer (Part# 273000055). This is a very small less than 1 in (2.5 cm) box with two wires (black and red) coming out of it. My '82 has the old type glass fuses. '83 and later have the blade type (I believe).

Pulled the headlight (left) fuse and pushed it back in with the red wire between the fuse and the holder. Then I took out the Gauge fuse and did the same with the black wire.

Now if the ignition is in the ON or Acc. position and the headlights are on there is no buzzer. However, if you turn the ignition to OFF and the headlights are on you get a 75 db buzzer telling you to TURN OFF THE LIGHTS!!!!!

The cost of the buzzer is a whopping $3.29. They have fancy 2 tone buzzers and chimes if you want to spend between $6.00 and $9.00.

This is a super easy mod that will save you a lot of agrivation.

Zcruiser doesn't even have his 62 anymore. He wimped out and moved up to the 80's board.

BTW- this is a good mod. Like someone said- I used to leave my headlights on and run down the battery when I first got my 60. Now that I have the fancy buzzer, I never forget to turn them off before I turn off the ignition, so I never need it.

Subscribing....Just got back from jumping the wife in her 62 because she left the lights on at the mall.

Geez, that's a pretty bold statement. Lots 'o room back there with the seat down :grinpimp::flipoff2:

Oh, and if you're looking for a follow up - the last post in this thread was almost a year ago...
