This would be two years running that the event falls on our spring break, no can do on spring breaks. Previous weekend closing on new house, oh the joy and stress of moving.

SHould be try to make it the weekend before or the weekend after so we have more attendance?

May starts getting hotter!

We knew not everyone would be able to make it? I'm still going

Than it is done. Dusty, why not drive over Saturday night after your show. Stay at my camp site and we can wheel till about 3 Sunday.

Well bad news. Everything was working great with new tranny and t-case until after driving around for a few days, my sm420, which was supposed to be in great shape, decided to not want to change gears anymore. I am able to get 1st, but any other gear binds and kills the engine. No neutral, no nothing. Gear shift wiggles around like it is in neutral but won't change gears. So, looks like the gears need to be adjusted. After sitting for 7 years, even with new oil and seals, something came loose after running it. I don’t break it down, but I did open it up and everything looked clean and moved freely. Must have just been due to sitting for so long.

I am out of luck. Have to pull the whole damn thing (again 3rd time) and rebuild it with the original owner who has rebuilt sm420's before (he has a beautiful 66 fj40 that he bought off the show room floor and who happened to sell the tranny to me).

He is a great older retired navy guy and drove out to the boon docks while I was stuck with my son at the river to tow me home. Luckily he knew where we were because we takes our dogs out there to train them. No way a tow truck would have found us, let alone made it out there. I had my son with me and it got dark and no where in the valley is totally safe to be alone at night unless armed, which I wasn't at the time so it was a bit stressful. He felt so bad that the tranny he sold me had problems that he was actually in tears so I can't blame him for it. He felt so bad he wanted to give my money back. But, its what happens sometimes when we buy old parts. He can pay me back by helping me rebuild it. Too bad he's too old to crawl under the damn thing and help me pull it.

No Calico for me this year. No way I can pull it, rebuild it, and get it back in. Just don't have the time.

Slickrock don't you have a fj also .... s*** take it !!!

How do you know the tranny is bad, maybe its just the shifter bound up

Haven't looked at it...been sick with strep throat. I'm gonna cut out what's left of the tranny hump since I need to fab a new one and get the inspection cover off the tranny before I take it apart. I'll see what is to be seen. I don't think it is bound because it stalls out the engine without the clutch unless I can get it into first. That doesn't seem bound to me.

If you are trying to shift into 2 gears at once, which I know can happen when the shifter is removed, the trans will lock up.

Everything was working great. Put it in first and went to make a 3 point turn on the top of a levee. Pulled up to the end of the road, went to put it in reverse and nothing. Gear shift wouldn't shift in gear and there was a bunch of slop in the shifter. When I let off the cluth, the tranny would bind and lug the engine to death. Only gear I could get into is first with lots of trying. The shifter flipps around too.

Can I tell you how fun it was to be towed down HWY 41 for about 10 miles with the engine on and holding in the clutch so I had brakes? By the time I got home, my leg was so cramped I couldn't walk. If I let off the cluth the driveline would have snapped since the tranny was bound up.

Anyone know SM420s? Can I tighten the syncros from the top cover?

Thelever came out really easily. All I have to do is push the rounded cap down and to the left and the rod pops out. I need to take a pick fown the hole and post it for you tomorrow to see if you can see what your talking about. I can't ge the top cover off until I do some cutting.
