HE vs Standard LC

HE owners get to look down their noses at all other 200 series owners. @Supra Turbo didn’t mention this point in his description.

@ryanCA would appreciate this.

I agree all aesthetic, but I miss my HE. The bronze stitching and black headliner made the interior feel (to me) really special. And the lack of that chunk of side molding made it look more lifted. I found the leather between my 2020HE and 21 base to be the same other than stitching.

I would rather have the console space than the cool box, I have a fridge in back when I want. Our front seat storage is a weak spot in the 200. New Honda Passport I just bought my son is amazing for storage up front.

+1 to non HE

Went from a 2021 HE to a rust free 2016 “base” and pocketed a huge amount of profit from the HE premium, when it was exactly the same underlying truck.

I would take a “base” model over a HE. The semi-aniline feels way better to the touch and the cool box is awesome for long road trips. You can still use the cool box as storage and just not turn it on if you really need the storage space.

The third row has come in handy a few times as well on the base. I realize the HE had a 3rd row option in 2021, but those are like hen’s teeth.

I used to have the bronze HE rims on my white 2016 LC, but found the TRD Pro Tundra black rims fit the white better. The bronze rims are going on the grey tundra instead.

(Laughs in HE 3rd row hen's teeth while on the balcony as @Supra Turbo colorized)

I forgot about the trim piece cladding the base model has and the HE doesn't @jl199986 mentioned. I honestly don't think about it unless there's another 200 for side by side comparisons.

@GrouchyTech keep an eye out and maybe post on the classifieds for any disillusioned HE owner who wants to get rid of their Yakima megawarrior basket. I am sure they're still for sale and may even be discounted when black Friday rolls round (granted, this wouldn't be free though).

@James Lapp Assuming both options of your next cruiser were taken care of with on time maintenance, etc I'd get whichever one seemingly had the most value to YOU.

Having a coolbox was a big deciding factor for me, in fact I would likely go as far as say if the Land Cruiser did not have one, I would have likely bought a different vehicle. I use mine every time I drive my vehicle and keep a few extra bottles of water in there for the homeless in the 110F+ summers. And though I never use them, IMO having the side folding seats is as iconic to the LC as the clamshell rear tailgate 🤷‍♂️
Agree on the third row seats...remind me of my fathers FJ40....but facing forward and way more padding on the seat!

I can see the coolbox being neat but I don't have it in my LX and appreciate that space for more forward storage. Something that's at a premium in the 200-series. As an overlander, most of us will have a larger fridge as part of the loadout in the rear anyways.
I use my coolbox constantly when on a road trip, even with a Dometic fridge in the back. I can just reach into the cool box and get what I want, no stopping.

Same here.

In fact I rarely turn it on unless on a trip. Way less use around-town, and in my head the reduced usage will prolong internal fan life.

The advantage the HE has, is that every single post you make ever about anything will give you the opportunity to mention your model is an HE model, over and over and over again.

Because it makes you cool and everyone shows you more respect if you paid more for less.

Make sure to mention HE at least 2x in each post for bonus internet cred

Other than Internet cred from like minded delusionals, only actually benefit I see is the lack of side trim moulding.

I've been around here long enough to see the HE go from rumor, to speculation and whining about "not special enough" (no one was being forced to buy one), to orders placed and rigs received, to 3-row versions the second year, to prices going ape**** post-covid, to those prices dropping notably. I can't say I've ever noticed owners of them acting like their s*** doesn't stink.

If I were replacing my 2013 and had the money? I would strongly consider grabbing a white two-row with no mods. I'd pretty much copy my current mild setup and commence piling on the miles. The primary thing that would annoy me is the poor spare tire mounting design likely damaging the (awesome) BBS wheels when mounted there.

200s are pretty special in general, especially in North America. HE's, objectively based on production numbers alone, are more special. Whether that and/or the spec sheet pushes a given buyer into paying for it or not is their decision.. I don't understand all the hate though.

As @Boston Mangler alluded to, I approve your honorarium paying homage to the HE 200 aristocracy.

Seriously though. I hadn’t thought about the wheel being (highly likely) damaged when it was stowed in the OEM location. @bloc I’ve got to say you wouldn’t like my current setup while I figure out which direction to go for a rear mounted spare. Good news: no wheel damage at all. Bad news: I don’t know how it’d fair in a serious collision.

Which oil is recommended for HE models?

I can see the coolbox being neat but I don't have it in my LX

I held you in high regard here and you were at the top of my knowledge and information member pyramid chart

Based on this new alarming information, you will be recategorized in the lower tier, of peasants
