Question as I sit here pondering cruisre ideas, does the 1HZ with auto have any throttle possition control or anything that controls gear changing from the engine?

Thinking its complete hydrolic with the typical kick down linkage.

Say for instance the 1HZ dies and I want to replace it with a 1HD-FT, direct bolt up or not?

The 1HD-FT are electronical controle inyection .. also I thought the auto tranny "reads" from tach the rpms to control gear changing .

Went and had a look - there is a cable from the throttle linkage at the injector pump running back to the tranny - looks like a standard cable type kick-down to me, kinda like the TH350. I don't know if there is any tach sensing going on like Tapage is suggesting...

But the tranny isn't too smart - many times when I accelerate out of a corner at town speeds and I stomp on it a little hard, it will drop two gears and then immediately up-shift.

You sure, cause I thought the engine prior to the 1HD-FTE was totally mechanical?

Well the cable from the tranny does seem to make it a full hydrolic unit.

Thanks

The 1HF-FT has plenty of EGR and cruise control crap on it but they're just add-on and the base engine itself is purely mechanical :grinpimp:

AFAIK they have the same bolt pattern, and the input shaft is likely to be the same so it might be :grinpimp:

Sometimes I'm fantazying about a LWBed 73 flatbed towtruck :)

-uhruru- ( member ) have right now a issue with his H442 that need signal from Tach ..

I'm not really clear what the question is here:confused:

I BELIEVE the transmission control unit makes shifts based un the pulse from the injection pump and the vehicle speed sensor .... the mechanical linkage is the passing gear making the shifts from 3rd to 4th gear ....

The 1HZ doe not have the throotle position sensor on the injection pump the 1HD-T does...

then again I'm not 100% sure

Let's figure this one out:mad:

cheers,

Tito

If memeorey serves me the 1HD-T does not have the throttle positioning sensore.

Sheldon is doing his 1HD-T swap right right now and can shed some light on this if hes watching.

Rob,

AFAIK, all the auto diesel 80 series Cruiser's from the late 1992 update had the A442F which had the electronic controls, and thus the TPS on the pump.

I can't see any reason why a resourceful fella like yourself couldn't fit / bolt anything made for a 1HZ to a 1HD-*T. All bolt patterns, etc are the same.

Welcome back to the board, Greg ;)

Do you know why the ACSD is different on the auto versions of the 1HDT? Is it because of the TPS?

Hi Dave,

Sorry mate, no idea on the ACSD, and I doubt it would be the TPS because they shouldn't interfere. But the injection pumps are supposed to be different between auto and manual too, i.e. different part numbers and calibration I believe.
