The bulb is 9001005104 (edit: no, it is not. that's the one for the clock. The correct one, for the hazzard is 8499970007)

On second thought I might be wrong though with that part number... I've changed it only half a year ago but not exactly sure if it took the larger or the smaller bulb out of the two types used in the that whole panel actually.. Or even if it's a 3rd type.. Sorry about that..

Okay, so based on this:

I think it takes the small bulb instead, in which case the part number is: 8499970007

Wow, I'm really happy to be a member of the forum, I must say! So much information I am getting here, many thanks!

I will try first to take it out and check for continuity, maybe it just loose in its place (changed the radio recently)

There is a way to "hack" in a common small 1.2 or 1.4W instrument panel bulb available at most car stores into the t4 (if that's what it is called) socket, so the black twist socket thingy. I don't know how though, but here in Hungary everyone does that instead of buying the proper one from toyota (which again is ridicoulusly expensive, like 36RON each). When I've replaced mine I was already ordering a big bunch of parts from partsouq, so I've just added a couple bulbs to that (that way it costs about 1/5 the Toyota price), that's why I have no clue how to do the "hack".

I see, thank you for letting me know! I will Google it myself then.

On the other hand, I will be doing the interior filter and ordering from Partsouq, so might get the bulb too then.

Does it pop out from the front (the switch cover) with a bit of prying or do you need to remove the trim and work on it from the back?
Please ignore my previous reply, I was wrong!!!

I am making pictures now, with location of 3 bolts holding it in place.

So, to complete my previous post which I was writing from the car urgently, so that noone breaks anything trying to pry out the hazard light switch only - as @01gxr kindly stated below, we need to pry out the whole central HVAC section, then undo 6? bolts to remove the cover and there is your base with 2 bulbs.

I ended up separating the buttons from the whole central section too (my picture above), when investigating, but for bulbs changing that is NOT necessary.

The central diff light started working intermittently depending on how I giggle it, so I guess I will change them both while I am here.

Can anyone confirm, should the mirror folding button (and its joystick) be let as well? they are not on mine, before I thought it is like that by design, but now I am suspicious...

It comes as a single part with the base so you have to take it out from behind you cant just pull it away from the base it is not a wedge type bulb it is acually wired into the base it is pretty easy though just pry out the entire trim start from the bottom with a plastic pry tool and work your way around then unplug the hvac controls from behind (4 connectors in total at least in mine) then unscrew a bunch of screws and remove the plastic cover ( mind that it is still connected to the face plate by a cable so be mindful of that) then the bulbs will be there 8 of them on mine ( it has a manual hvac control not auto like the hdj)

Some more pics I took in the car. Sorry about (lack of quality), it is dark out there.

all ended well - I went to the street automarket (Sunday the shops are closed) and bought simple auto bulbs with long "legs" and 4mm in diameter (the glass section).

I just took the old bulb out of plastic seat (small flat screwdriver or a needle to untangle the wires), put new bulbs in, run the wires the same route the old ones were, cut the excess "legs" and put back in the car.

All work perfect!

Many thanks for the idea @l3n0x as waiting for the proper T4 bulb would take at least 2 weeks, but the car is a daily driver and the central HVAC part was dismantled so this solution (now and here) was better for me.

If I had the time, I would probably order T4 bulb from China - they are about 2-3$ for 10 pcs, much cheaper then I paid for the bulbs ($4 for 5 pieces), but as I said I needed the car to be ready for Monday.

Toyota parts is unreasonably expensive, but they did not have in stock so I had no choice here.

can anyone please look at their mirror adjustment folding buttons - do they light up too?

Mine are not lit, so how do I remove that panel (please see the photo)?

Super news! You can remove the green rubber cap from the old bulbs and put them on the new ones (sorry for the term, they’re like a condom:D)
I’ve checked the panel in your last picture yesterday evening, and for me only the “Rear” and “Power Heater” buttons are illuminated. This doesn’t mean a thing, because I might also have blown bulbs there - never looked at it serously yet.

I did reuse the green cup indeed.

Do you know how to remove the panel with rear fog lights?

I don't think they should light up in a landcruiser only on lx470 but to remove that panel you first remove the plastic trim under the insturment cluster ( the one that has the dimmer on it) then you can unclip the whole panel that contain the switches (you don't remove the black bezel you remove the whole kick panel as a unit) to remove it completely there are some screws in the bottom side of it but you can pull it back enough to access the switches they can be pushed out easily

Thank you on removal procedure!

Let's see if anyone else can confirm on this being OK (not lit), then I don't need to remove it at all ))

In the US, the LX lights up but the LC does not.

this is so nice!!! thank you for confirming this!

But now I want this too :(

Has anyone attempted this mod?
How similar/different are LX and LC in this way?

If it is just a matter of adding 2-3 bulbs, then I am definitely doing it (this assumption is inspired by the thread cabin filters, where one just had to add a door and 2 filters to make a LC like a LX in that respect).

The US LC switch cannot be easily modified to light up. However, I think if you have the retracting mirrors, the mirror control will likely light up (dead bulb).

Yes, the mirrors can be folded, there is a button to the right of mirror adjustments joystick.
