have you swapped from OME863's to Slee heavies?

If so, what are your thoughts? I have a rear bumper with spare tire carrier, ladder, fridge in the back, and sub. no drawers. For dd duty it is stiff. I am curious if you felt the Slee heavies were more comfortable than the 863's for DD duty? Thnx!

I went from 866's to Slee's heavies and I like it better for DD. it has a better spring rate. That along with correctly valved Radflo's makes a huge difference for daily driving. Hopefully I will hit some trails soon to test everything out. My wife commented on the difference going over some speed bumps in the neighborhood today.

Craig, you need to come over. I want to drive your rig on the streets around my house. Besides my TC uca's we are pretty much built the same now suspension wise. It would give me a good comparison. Maybe we can go for a surf after or something....

Sounds good. I'm off work tomorrow. From the small amount of time I have spent in your truck, I would say your truck has a little more of a harsh ride, but it has been awhile...

let us know your perceptions of the differences; some of us have 863's and not sure what pros/cons it would have. Of course, every situation and cruiser needs is different.

I have just installed the Slee Heavies and I have the Slee Rear Bumper and drawer kit in the back. I was pleasantly surprised to find the Slee heavies are not harsh at all (I do have RadFlo's, that might make a difference).

do you have slightly less clearance off the rear bumper with the slee heavies vs the 863's? can you show pics of both with the slees and witht he 863?

I do not have photos taken from the same perspective with the 866 and the Slee Heavy, but the Heavy sits about .75 inches taller than the 866 with the same load in the rear.

I've been side by side with trucks with the Slee heavies, I would say they had more weight in the back, but not much and my 863's sit higher. I don't think the heavies were designed to match height with the 863's.

I'm about to move from 860's to 863's. I was going to go with slee's springs but ran across a deal I couldint pass up.. My question is to use or not to use the 10mm trip packs with them...?

Not exactly on topic but I will try to report back non the less..

Truck is a 03 with Slee rear, rear carrier, slide out, heavy cooler and all the heavy tools/gear..

don't really understand the question. Why do you think you may or may not need them? The 10mm trim packs are typically used when driver or passenger side is higher and one is trying to level the two. BTW, I went from 860's to 863's.

And just to point out to others, I am asking about those that have switched from the 863's to the Slee heavies. I know the truck will sit a little lower with the Slee heavies. I looking for your opinion on the ride quality during DD use when unloaded. Did you notice a distinct difference or was it about the same?

photos would be good if anybody can show the pics side by side. the 863 rides pretty stiff and adds to the stink bug. jury's still out for me. i've got moderate wait on it and still the old girl sits with her butt high in the air.

If I make the swap, I will take before and after shots for you. But, that may be a while. As of right now it seems no one has done it yet.

Jon, have you talked to Christo or Ben about your question?

Not yet. I know... I know... just thought there might be a consumer base with first person experience. I will more than likely talk with Christo and make the switch.

Funny how I pushed the truck going as high as possible and now find myself going the other way to get the best ride quality before going to 35's. While I really love the looks of a near 3" lift. These trucks just done like it. Seems best bang is lowest lift possible to accept 35's and do a body lift.

^ It is a bit of a hassle to install a 1"+ body lift but it really is the solution for keeping tire rub to a minimum and/or elimination when running 35's. If you like 315 width and/or running 1"+ spacers in front the cut and tuck front fender mod would be needed to avoid tire to fender interference on bigger front suspension compression hits. Cry once :D

Maybe you need to schedule a weekend to Reno and we'll get the BL installed...

When I go up to 35's I am going to follow your lead and run 285/75/18's. Ill keep the Reno idea in mind. It will be a while before I do the BL as I still have a good amount of tread left on my BFG 295's. Maybe in a year or so. Right now to just get everything as smooth as possible.....

Jonathan, I noticed a big improvement for on road smoothness just replacing my Radflo rear shocks with the revalved reservoirs, same Slee heavy spring. I told Radflo to configure them for 6000lb truck, city type driving.

I tested them out yesterday on Coyote Canyon and it rode perfect off road, through deep mud, multiple water crossings, couple of significant drops etc.
Let me know when you want to drive my truck. I think you will be surprised at how it handles the streets with the Slee heavy springs.
