I may be picking up a new to me LX570 soon. I have a newer Tundra and am wondering if I could pull the LX with the tundra. Would only be about a 4 hr ride. Will the LX fit on a uhaul car trailer?

This is what i'd be worried about in that scenario:

Capacity

  • Max load: 5,290 lbs.
  • Gross vehicle weight: 7,500 lbs. max.
  • Empty weight: 2,210 lbs.

That's about 1k lbs lower than a LX.

Thx. I was worried about that. I wonder if uhaul is too conservative with their specs … but it may not be worth the risk.

Maybe do a fly in drive out....probably costs less to do that than rent a trailer and gas both ways.

They are and it's a beefy trailer. I've heard of others tell white lies about what their towing in the rental agreement.

That said, the real problem is if you were to have an incident. Both in regards to what you put on the application and what you're actually towing. You'll have to decide if that's worth the risk.

It’s just personal experience, so discount as you will, but I hauled a 100 series home on a uHaul trailer, with my 200 series and the trailer was definitely the weak link. Lots of creaking, and the deck wasn’t really long enough to get the center of mass where I wanted it on there. Note that the 570 is a good couple lb’s more than the 470.

All that to say, fly in drive out is a great option if you know that’s the car for you and if it’s going to be a 4hr haul home.

Be safe and good luck!

EDIT: The condition of those uHaul trailers can vary pretty widely as well, so my experience may not be representative of the average trailer, for what it’s worth.

I hauled a 5100 lb FJ60 with 33x12.5 wide tires with a Ram 1500. Trailer didn't skip a beat. If you look on FB group "Uhaul probably would;nt like you doing that with their vehicle", the trailer can take some abuse wthout failing.

Decided to do a one way rental car. Much cheaper than the other alternatives.
At least this way you’ll have some time to get to know your 200.

Second quote really applies. My friend and I hauled an 80 from SW CO back to houston behind a 3500 Ram, and the trailer lost two tires on the way. Inflated to spec.. but who knows how they were treated before we got it. Fortunately my friend driving had a ton of experience with trailers, he could feel the tires starting to go before they turned into big problems. I don't think I would have noticed. He brought one spare, (had dealt with uhaul enough to feel that was a good idea) but we had to sit on the side of the road for hours waiting for the second.

One-way rental sounds like a great idea for a few reasons.

One way rental worked out great. Picked up the rental in Charleston yesterday and drove to Jax this morning. $60 for the car rental. $10 to Uber to the meeting spot. Met the guy, checked out the LX …. And I now have a 2014 LX570 with 130K miles. Black with tan interior. Never been off-road (yet!) and never towed anything (yet!). Really pleased with the purchase. I may actually be motivated to sell my 470 and start a mild build on this one.

Not much to look at on the side of those roads!

I sold my GX for 14 LX as well.
How much did you pay for your beautiful LX?

I know this is the 200- forum, but don’t sell the hundy… ragrets kick in quick.
I know. I’ve toyed with the idea several times, but I can never pull the trigger. The problem is I really have an opportunity to do 1-2 trips per year in it. And it is built for so much more than I typically use it for.

But I love it when i get to use it properly.

$38. How about you?

$41 for a 13 with 75k miles.

I know your question wasn't directed at me but I was watching and wanted to know what you paid as well.

I’m no 501(c)(3) but always happy to provide a home for needy and underserved hundys 😇
