Has anyone installed JDM LC or LX470 Power Folding Mirrors?

Hello everyone. As you all are aware, the US version 100 Series Land Cruisers did not get the power folding mirror feature as on JDM Land Cruisers and US market Lexus LX470s. Has anyone bought the power folding mirror switch and mirrors themselves for the LX470 and installed them into their US market Land Cruiser? Are there any other parts/wiring that needs to be purchased to complete this? What needs to be done in order to do this? Do the connectors themselves need to be altered?

Thanks in advance.

I know there is also a power mirror ECU for the reverse, mirror down feature. Not sure if the mirrors can be retracted w/o it.

Let us know if you figure it out. If not you can always go half way and install some Muth signal mirrors.

I really want everything to look 100% factory. I may ask a body shop or audio shop about it. I will look into the power mirror ecu as well. I don't want after market signal mirrors, just oem that power fold in. Our garage has three separate one car stalls which is a pain trying to pull in and out everyday. I see our neighbor across the street fold in hers each time she pulls in. Def. would help out.

I am surprised nobody here has done this mod yet. Seems like it would have been on many people's to do list.

Somewhat related, but there was just a thread about this on the 80s forum, as the japanese 80s had the option of power folding mirrors. Search.

I forgot to mention, it was a complete write up on installation.

Just lift/bodylift it and put big tires on it and the mirrors will be above the rest.

I think the main reason most people havent done it, is nobody knows it was available unless you had a LX at some point. I never use mine, except when I need to flap the ears to go faster.

Its not other cars that I am worried about. Its my garage. I have a three car garage, but each stall has it's own individual garage door...which is a pain when driving in and out of the garage because the openings are so small compared to two-stall doors. This is when I would use it the most.

Roverrad95-Thanks for letting me know that there is a write-up in the 80's section. I never would have known that since I generally only search in the 100 and 200 forums.

Where do you see the auto tuck mirrors for sale? I know of KP technologies makes the mirror tilt module... when car is put in reverse the mirrors tilt downward for ease of backing up.

I am going to order everything from Lexus for an 07 LX470.

Once you price all the parts new, you'll likely change your mind.

They come equipped with the module for reverse tilting and folding? If so, how much they charge for that?

For starters, the mirrors themselves are $750/ea. They are power, power-folding, auto-dimming and heated. There is a power mirror module in the drivers' door. In the kick panel, there are a couple relays, timer and switches for the heated and dimming portion.

The mirror ties into a system which include the tilt-telescoping steering wheel and the seats for the memory function. I suspect the wiring to be different as well for the heating/dimming part of the mirrors. Hopefully, the color of your LC matches an LX color as the mirrors come pre-painted.

The cheaper solution is to buy just the mirrors and splice in the power mirror connectors to your existing connectors so power mirrors work. Then find a way to make your own circuitry to retract/push out the mirrors using the factory switch. By a used mirror on ebay to try it out first.

If the power-folding mirrors were available for the LX470, I would go that route instead of trying to get the JDM ones.

The write-up that ScarolinaFZJ(80?) did shows the obstacles he faced with the different angle of the mirrors and the mounting position being different between the RHD and the LHD mirrors.

G'luck!

I already looked up the main parts...mirrors and switch. Price I'm not concerned about as the added value would be tremendous to me. I just would like to figure out the wiring business first. Not sure if there is mirror specific wiring to order from Lexus, or if I can get a shop to fabricate something. The tilt down feature I don't care about though. We will see, I might just order the parts and then come up with the wiring solution.

The more that I think about it, I remember this being brought up several times on a Celica site back when I use to look at it a few years back. I know I saw write-ups on there. I would assume they would be pretty much the same ordeal.

Perhaps you could update your signature line to include the year model of your vehicle. I expect the later model parts may have different connectors as some changed size in 2003.
I would guess that the switch connectors are behind the blanks on the dash just waiting for you to plug the switches into, not sure about the doors, possibly different sub harness, but mine had the door lamp wiring in them unused which I plugged lamps straight into, so mirrors could be similar. Pull your existing mirror and see if you can find any extra wires floating around the door or see if the mirror plugs into an eight pin connector and only uses 4 wires etc. If you want the indicator on the outside mirror as well, well that one may have to be wired as well. With regards to the ECU...........that's another story and a later one would most likely not plug into and early harness..............you may be able to have manual fold back mirrors though without memory function or auto tilt down etc. Good luck, you may need to scan some wiring diagrams..................

Chalk another win up for the LX. No can't say I can help on this one but I can say GOODLUCK!
Standard on LC in Europe.:p

That means no problem with left/right tilt angles.
