Has anyone here bought one of these tire carriers??

I say build your own, that is what i have started doing with all of mine.

Build it

Either build it yourself or have it built by a honest welder for about half of that. JTO get's none of my business for reasons you can research on this board. Not one dollar.

for a cruiser bumper, not too expensive, but as others have said, jto won't get my money...they've screwed me enough with their crap products.

look into aftermarket heep bumpers...some will bolt right up, or require minor mods and they are much cheaper than the cruiser vendors are asking.

I know of a certain person that has a rear bumper/tire swing set up sitting in his shop that might end up on my rig for some real world testing :D :flipoff2:

You might want to consider something like this:

You should be able to get left half fabricated now, and the right half fabricated later ;)

I think that light (on the left, poking up over the tire) is over the top, and the right would be more functional holding jerry cans (instead of a $1K cooler). Other than those nits, the above setup seems very functional (especially if you have ambulance doors ;) ).

I have that bumper/tire carrier and so far so good. It works great and I have had no porblems with it. I also have a Weber I bought from JT. Please elaborate on why you guys don't do business with JT. I don't want to do business with them if they are not honest and reliable. How about Man-A-Fre? I just ordered new shakles and shims from them.

I also bought that tire carrier about a year ago,and have had no problems. I guess I was lucky,as I had no problems with JT.

Lots of members here have had problems w/ JTO ... specifically faulty products and incorrect orders that were not resolved in an appropriate manor. I realize everyone makes mistakes sooner or later - but it's how you deal with them that counts.

If I was going to spend that kind of money on a bumper - I'd go with the Ironpig or 4Plus from Man-a-fre ... two very helpful vendors who are willing to put in the extra effort -

I also hear Mark is making a sweet new 40 bumper over at Metaltech ;)

I like that iron pig bumper. I looked around at a few and for the money the JT had what I wanted. I wanted to center my rear tire and have a strong place to mount my spare. I paid $500 no tax no shipping, so I don't think I got that bad of a deal. Not owning a welder, it would have cost me close to that to have something fabbed, but this one was claimed to be tried and tested. So far it has not given me any problems, even on some pretty hard trails. I was afraid it might hit the rear door, but that has not happened yet. Good to know they don't resolve their mucked up orders as I will not do business with a company that does not stand behind their products. I can add them to my list of vendors and repair shops who will not get any more of my money.

Not to turn this into a thread about a vendor BUT I've bought several little things from JT with no problems. More than that, they have gotten things to me quicker than either of the SoCal vendors that I've bought from do and they're a heck of a lot further away.

The closest to an issue I've had with JT was in taking a front bumper with buy-it-now in ebay. The listing said it was 1/4" steel. I put in remarks in my paypal payment that I would refuse delivery if it was not 1/4". Before placing the bid I called and was assured that it IS 1/4".
They must have read my note and went to check. The next morning I got a notice of full refund both from them and from paypal. Now that ebay listing specifies that the same bumper is 3/16" steel.
All this speaks of an honorable business practice on JT's part. The bumper HAD been the heavier steel but their supplier changed it and nobody at JT noticed (that's what a phone contact said). As soon as they became aware of the difference they changed their website and their ebay auction listing. I wish I could say that all vendors do business in the way I've seen JT do it.

More power to you - I know of three plus guys with useless sets of springs in their garages unfortunatly. Maybe they listened and hired some better help - I just hate when someone tells me my order is shipped, and I call a week later to find it still in their shop

My experience, my $.02 - if you're comfortable go for it!

I'm kind of thinking like Tejas here, I really want my tire centered in the back and I have no real need for a spare tire and cooler carrier. If I had the time and tools I would probably build something real similar to the JTO design, but since I don't I'll probably end up going with theirs. I'll post back and let everyone know if I had any problems with their service. Trust me, if they dink me over I'll tell the whole world what weinie huggers they are and never do business with them again.
