My car is probably similar - 99 - no rust - paint mostly good but clear coat gone in places - keen to address it. I am assuming that clear coat can be repaired without repainting. If so what is typical cost of fixing the clear coat ?
Thx
This is all about details.
How much trim are you going to remove?
Single stage or base and clear?
How many trim pieces are going to be slightly damaged during removal and is that going to bother you?
Do you care if the new clear starts to fade or yellow after 5-10 years?
A "full paint job" can cost under $500 or be as much as $10k. If you want something that competes with OEM finishes, you're closer to 10k. Most people probably spend between $2k and 5k for a job that isn't obviously flawed, but you could get lucky below that.
That looks really slick. Good call on the paint scheme and trim delete. Leaving the crease in the body still gives you the intended "lines", but much cleaner.Does it have to be an LX470? I painted my LC100 last year, full repaint in a different color. Ran about $6K but had to drive four states to get it done there, the cheapest I found in TX was $10K which was BS for a hunting rig, "this ain't no show truck"!
Paint + clear, side trim deleted (and holes welded up), rear hatch hardware deleted at the same time. Very minor body work, had 20 years of dings, dents and scrapes and a couple of bigger booboos.

I'm thrilled with the results, and love the color, which is "Gator Green" (looks brownish/khaki/greenish depending on the light). I had talked to a couple of restorations shops in Central Texas, nobody seemed thrilled to work on the truck and especially on the color change, so the price of the quotes may have reflected lack of enthusiasm. A great friend who lives in Idaho offered to help, having a shop local to him that had painted multiple Land Cruisers and was willing to take on the project. Drove it up to SLC to meet him and he trailered it back to Idaho (with a cool visit to the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum). A few months later I flew up to Boise and picked it up, hitting Moab, Colorado, New Mexico and west Texas trails on the way back!Wow, nice job... looks very solid.
We're pretty close to each other. I'm just west of Round Rock. Where did you end up going for the paint job? Who in Austin were you considering go to otherwise?
Separate question, but somewhat related.. What color are those wheels? They don't seem like a plain "silver". We're they powder coated?I'm thrilled with the results, and love the color, which is "Gator Green" (looks brownish/khaki/greenish depending on the light). Offer is open, anyone in this area -or rolling through Austin area- that wants to stop and check it out or shoot the Cruiser sh*t, c'mon down!![]()
