For those that have added lockers to your vehicles, do you have any recommendations\tips when running\mounting all the wiring\electrical components?

Where did you have the wires enter the body?

Where did you mount the relays

Did you directly connect to the battery for 12v power or tap into other 12v sources?

I'm using the 80 series switch and panel but you can also show where you mounted your switches.

Side thought, would it be beneficial to have the front diff locked and not the rear in any situations? (80 series switch only allows for rear to be locked or both)

Thanks

I utilized a dedicated SPod switch mounted overhead on sunglass compartment for my rear locker. That allows rapid easy activation without having to move my vision from what's in front of my vehicle.

The 4WD 24-7 guys in Australia said in one of their youtube videos that ordinarily the front would be better for a locker but since the 200 series front independent suspension is somewhat prone to failure at the cv joints, they recommend putting a locker in the rear.

I ran my locker wires through the grommet in the back right quarter panel above the AHC reservoir/pump assembly to where I have a fuse panel and power source (where the first aid kit usually sits). I ran a wire from the front switch to the relay supplied. I used a fuse tap to the ignition circuit in the main fuse box under the hood to run the other switch wire.

I have an OEM locker switch as well that I would like to use. But the only place I can think to put it is that little pull out storage compartment on the left side of the steering wheel. Where are you going to install yours?

I didn't wire mine, the shop that did my gear and locker install did. That said...

I have a separate fuse block in the engine bay which the main relays for my lockers are wired to for power.

I have the 80/100-series diff lock knob. If it needs power directly (not from the relays) then I'm pretty sure it gets power from somewhere in the cab nearby. TBH I'm not sure where though or how this part is wired.

He ran the main wiring underneath the truck to the relays which are mounted in the engine bay. The wiring to the interior switch goes through the firewall grommet on the passenger's side, I believe.

Remember when drilling holes in the diff for the lockers that you're doing so on the TOP of the rear diff in particular. I've not done this myself but I've read that the way you mount the pumpkin it's easy to get confused and drill on the bottom.

BTW I really wanted mine installed between the ECT PWR/2nd Start button and the MTS knob on my LC, however all the knobs and buttons in the center area are wired through one solid plastic PCB which is right in the way. Since I was out of blanks in my dash I ended up just having him mount it in the phone holder tray (the rubber thing between the gear shift and the ash tray). I don't love the location, but since all modern phones don't fit cleanly in that spot I can live with it for now, and I can always replace it in the future.

Thanks, I have the factory locker panel, so I will mount it there with the center diff and traction control switches. I will have to find another spot for the other 2 switches that I don't think I have ever used.

Can you put up the part number for this panel?

I got it from cruiser outfitters, I think their P/N is ELEC55447 Toyota P/N 55447-60030-C0 (black) 55447-60030-A0 (tan)

Sounds like you're looking for specifics to wiring in the cabin. As I'm using a SwitchPros with main relay junction underhood, my setup probably doesn't apply as it didn't require bringing the elocker wiring inside.

Only thing that might be applicable is the wiring run from the diff housing, over the axle, and following the brake lines to the frame. Which you probably already sorted.

The right hand drive panel also supplies a location for switches, but things need custom work to integrate smoothly. I have yet to complete this.... purchased a black unit in case mods are needed.View attachment 2685158
I considered drilling the right side for the switch but it didn't look like it would be flush (and it appears based on the above I was right).

I suppose if you only have a rear locker you could source a second H4/L4 switch and wire that up. The label would be wrong though

Drilling won't work well, the shape of the blank panel isn't correct. A little trimming and it pops in, just need to fine tune the edge of the switch so it's clean and OEM looking.

Same questions. I'm looking at doing the wiring on mine now. I have the switches and everything where I want them, I just have no idea where to run the wiring from the rear diff. Worried about snagging, component movement flex etc.

I’d have to climb under and look at precisely how my mechanic ran mine but my first though it to follow the diff breather which mounts to the frame and is in the center so it only requires half the slack as running along one of the sides would

I ran my cable bundle from the diff to the driver side upper control arm following the ABS wires. I used loop clamps along the frame using all the empty holes from the AHC delete to the engine bay.

@bjowett after trimming the switch shape, did the switch (from an 80 series?) just snap into the hole, or did you need to do some fabrication/adhesive, etc.?

Compressor switch?
Well I went with eLockers so no onboard compressor in my setup at this time.

The start button is a momentary contact switch I think tied to a relay, so I don’t think you could just reuse another start button for that purpose. Trying to think what a momentary contact switch might be good for. Maybe turning every front facing light on to blind people hanging out in the left land unnecessarily?
