Harmonic Balancer (1 Viewer)

All,

If I order the crankshaft pulley, will the harmonic balancer automatically come with it? Do they come together when ordered? I'm looking at this engine breakdown and all I see is the crankshaft pulley, and I'm hoping it has the harmonic balancer within it. I'm looking at part 13471. Or should I be looking at 13477? I have a 12HT with PS and AC.

When it was available.. It looks like the pully came with the HB.

I can't find a separate PN for just the pulley itself.

But it looks like to me (from a questionable source) that a new HB/pulley for your engine is NLA from Toyota.

There are companies that rebuild harmonic balancers.

Been meaning to post up about Harmonic Balancers.

I recently did mine. figured rather than trying to buy new for $$$$ i would give a rebuilder a shot.

I went with Dale Manufacturing out of Oregon new home page H.B.

Dale answered many questions, was easy and honest to work with. Additionally, i had him spot weld the rivets which are known to fail on these. he spot welded both the front and back of the rivets, as well as re did the balancer rubber, and a coat of paint.

total shipped back to me was ~ 270

Only have about 50 miles on the rebuilt balancer but so far so good.

@vipergrhd the reason i sent it out was i watching it run and i could see it wobbling.. Granted, the rig only had 129,000 miles on it but after 30 years the rubber was shot. so i pulled it and sent her out for refurb.

Seems like it's been a while! How's that thing holding up after a rebuild? I'm about to pull mine off for the same reason you stated. Runs fine but noticed a wobble and a slight knocking sound. Did you have any damage to your crank shaft or key?

I see 3 harmonic balancers on rockauto ranging in price from about $270 to $350.

It’s been my experience on other cars that when the harmonic balancer starts to go it will squeal as the outer slips on the rubber

Mine seems to have manifested as a subtle knock. At least I think... I hope that's all it is and it's not rod bearings.

Maybe because the key is knocking in the keyway that is becoming sheared?

Stop it. I can only imagine the horrible things I'll find once I get ahold of a big ass SST to remove this thing.

The HB? It’s easy. Rent one. I had but did end up buying one. Or I can ship it to you to borrow.... lmk.

Advance Auto. It was the one shaped like a crows foot. You’ll need 3” bolts tho. Kit only has 2 or 4 in it. I picked up 3’s at Ace Hardware.
I did tho buy the right puller, the rectangular bar type. Like I said, lmk and I can ship it to you to borrow if you want. I found it on Amazon I think. I can snap a photo for you in the AM.

Flawless.

No issues at all, runs like a top. I've put about 10,000 miles on that HB without issue.

remember: you get what you pay for. Rock auto is normally cheap Chinese stuff. I'd have mine rebuilt or go new OEM if you can afford the 650 they cost new.

a rebuild was 270 shipped.

Hey I never took a photo. Advance Auto won’t have the bar type one. They have the rental crows foot that I used. You’ll need 3” bolts as the kit only has 2” or 4”.
Looks like I’ll need to keep mine as I’m pulling my hb off soon too. Woohoo.
