Jim,

The upper links go from the pumpkin to the top of the frame. The lowers go from the outside of the axle tube to a crossmember on the lower part of the frame and inward towards the center. By creating these oppsing triangles you create a suspension that has virtually no side to side travel.

rascal, thanx

is there science to this kinda set up?

thanx

I was afraid someone would ask me to try to make sense of Ed's spreadsheets... here goes:

Upper Links: 42"
Lower Links: 40"
Vertical Seperation Front: 7"
Vertical Seperation Rear: 12"
Anti Squat: 106%

If any of this is wrong maybe Ed will chime in.

Congrats on the teaching job - our world needs good people like you working with our kids.

That's actually about right.

Congrats on one sweeet ride Bruce. Sorry if I offended you when I said I would trade my ride for it. :D :D :D

Ed and i spent a lot of time together over the past few weeks. He is not only a phonomenal fabricator/designer but also a great guy.

Thanks Ed for all of your hard work.

It sure sounds kinky, but it was a lot of fun working with you on this!

Thanks Bruce! Can't wait for Trailfest so we can hit the trails again!

you should run a rear limit strap IMO...mine only droops 2" at the center with the limit, but still allows full stroke of the shocks...MAJOR assistance on steep downhills (no unloading) and doesn't force you to remember to cinch a rear winch (plus no expense or weight)

That is a good suggestion, but personally, I think Woody is driving too slow if the rear end unloads on downhills. ;p

What springs (rates) on the coilovers?

Yes, Ed used a 4 Link calculator. It's a program that you enter a bunch of dimensions and preferences into and it spits out information link lengths and positioning.

14" Swayaway Coil Overs
14"x2.5"x150 Bottom
12"x2.5"x110 Top

May be a little soft - I'm going to try this set up and see how it works. What are your thoughts?

It's MUCH easier than pulling out the Trig books like I used to do (and honestly, it seems to be more accurate too). You still have to spend a lot of time thinking how you want it to be setup and side issues about how to set it up - like I wanted the lower links to be lower than the driveshaft to help protect it on ledges, but it is the way to go.

I switched to Dan Barcroft and Greg Blanchette's 4 link calculator after testing it against my manual calculations on Nolen's rig, and it gave the same results (and made it 1,000,000,000 times easier to edit the model to get it "right")

Of course, you can just throw one together with lots of adjustability and dial it it after the fact too. :)

Sheesh, mine are too stiff with a 250 over 300 (or 350 I can't remember)

I need softer springs. I think you will like the weights you have right now. Those rates shoudl be nice on a rear end..

looks awesome ! my springs are 250 and 300, im thinking im going to be way to stiff in the rear  thats one more nice thing about the kings is you can trade the springs out all day,

Cool, you will be unless you are significantly heavier than I am.
Which I kinda doubt. My truck is a bit on the piggish side..

I went around and around on this. I may have to break down and get Jim's scales. But as it sits right now it's level. I can move the truck down about 1" - 2" by hanging on it - I weight 170lbs. May be too soft.

Damn, that looks GREAT...

Nice license plate, too.. ;)

Thanks Rich - time to finish up some details and then wheel it!

What is the max working angle for a 1350 ujoint? what increase do you get from a CV? I may need to get my new rear shaft rebuilt with CV on the TCase end.

" max working angle for a 1350 ujoint" -22 degrees, according to Jess...

I had to go to a 1350CV, and I am running a HI 9....

and IIRC he said max on that was 42 degrees...

Looks awsome Bruce!

Look forward to seeing this in November.

This seems to close for me....

I would hate to have you go to full droop, and twist off that 32 spline Atlas output...
