The reason the 9" is so popular for portal hybrids is the availability of high ration gears. A FJ-80 inner could only go 3.73 in the middle.

As for Hummer portals, I dont know how much reduction is there, but on my Mog portal it is 2.13 at the box.

3.70 x 2.13 = 7.88 in the axles....a tad low.

I am using 2.75's in the 9" and that takes me to 5.89 overall.
