How to determine if it’s my it’s my brake booster or master.

The brakes were overhauled back in mid-2018 to include a Toyota reman. booster and new Toyota Master. The pig has had several brake jobs since then but let me start from the top.

I first experienced an issue two weeks ago when I started the truck and immediately took off. I thought it was a lack of vacuum to the booster when first staring or something…no biggie.

My wife took it out last week and mentioned while using cruise control it felt leak it hard to push or the cruise didn’t deactivate. There was one other instance where she felt the pedal was hard to push.

Flash forward to today and initially I thought it was only after coming to a halt (felt normal) then creeping forward and the trucks brake pedal was very hard to push. Now I believe it’s just hard to push.

How do you know if it’s the master or the booster? I know these trucks can be plagued with ABS module issues but I’m not sure it’s that?

booster or vaccum issue= pedal hard
master, abs, air, hose or rare caliper issue =pedal soft/low

Take the opportunity to clean your intakes/throttle body and replace your vacuum lines.

Got it all wrapped up. Replaced the booster and she’s good-to-go. Vacuum lines were replaced last year when the head gasket was done.
