I talked with a friend last night about this and since he already deals with the company and has a good price he said he would order some for me. I will be making a list and add yours in also. What size dies do we have for the tubing bender and what size tube are you wanting?

Dave

Order more than you think you will need so when you make a mistake you can still finish up your task. I guarantee you will find a use for any left over tube!

That being said I'll take 24 feet - updated - I need about 5 feet per side now so I'll want at least twice that to fix my mistakes!

We have 1 inch and 2 inch dies - I'll do some research and see what thickness tubing we need.

For my cage (down the road) I'm going to use DOM, for my rear quarter protection and front fender protection I'm going to use HREW. 2 inch or maybe 1.75 for everything - gotta figure out thickness though.

I would hope we could combine some projects like tubing stuff and also painting. I am good for June as it will be somewhat slack in the office by then. And I can save up for things as well.

Combining projects is a possibility but we classically with HAMOMs focus on one person's truck per HAMOM. The last HAMOM was a Club HAMOM with the axle rebuilds which was nice to get multiple trucks done at a time. The nice thing about how we ususally do HAMOMs is one club member can get a ton of things done in a day.

Now, if a few club members want to do the same thing - say bend sliders (like Bob mentioned) we can get 2 or 3 guys together and do that at one time. It would be a great learning experience with the bender.

We can move around dates and combine dates - just let me know what people are thinking.

I agree. I was talking about doing the same things to multiple trucks. Sliders bumpers? or even painting. I am open to any help, since I bought the 80 there isnt near as much that needs (or I want) to be done, but plenty on the list.

The catch with paint, and I might be wrong, but I think it would be hard to paint multiple vehicles, or even one, in a day. You could use multiple hands prepping the vehicle but once it comes time to shoot paint it is kind of a one person job.

Now - if we had multiple people who needed panels painted (not whole vehicles) maybe we could get some sort of assembly line going. We would have to work quick though b/c the painter wouldn't have anything to do for awhile and hopefully he wouldn't get toooo drunk. :grinpimp:

Will do Carp - hope all is OK.

Things are fine, we're just outgrowing our house, and starting the wrapping up small projects/getting our house on the market/finding a new house process, so I know my 60 will be low in the priorities. But, the good thing is that the new house will have a separate garage for me to work in or one will be built shortly after we move in. :bounce:

I saw a post elsewhere on MUD where a guy said he got a good deal on tubing - was $6.50/ft for 2" x .120 DOM and $3.50 for HREW - DOM is expensive!

I've got a hardtop so I might just go with 2x.120 or 1.75x1.20 HREW. That would save me 50% in material costs.

Check out http://www.metalsdepot.com/products/hrsteel2.phtml?page=rndtube&LimAcc=$LimAcc for pricing ideas.

That site seems to have some decent prices, is easy to use, and shipping doesn't seem too bad.

April is good for me. I would love to have the piggy ready for GSMTR...not that I would wheel it, but it would be fun to take it.

What date in April works for you besides the first Sat which will be the monthly meeting - unless you want to have the monthly meeting at your house.

For the sliders i was looking at marlins and it says it is tubing which i would think means HREW. I think some 2. x .120 HREW would be fine. I am going to go 1.0 x .120 for my trailer top and that should be more that strong for the rack on it. I will put a call in today for price on the HREW from the guy i know. How much do you think we would need per vehicle to do sliders? I am thinking a piece of 2 x 3 for under the body then a nice piece of tubing bent and mounted as the step. so 2 pieces of square and say 25 feet of tube?

I'll measure my sliders when I get home. Then we can add a few feet to be safe per vehicle.

I'll also measure the diameter of the tubing on my slides. You might want to think about 1.75" instead of 2 inch for sliders.

No clue on how much would be needed for the front bumpers. I would think 25 feet would be a plenty for 2 sliders if you went off of 3x2 for the main portion.

I agree ont he 1.75 or 1.5 but we dont have a die for that size. (would cost fo the die make up for using the smaller tube?

Second or the third weekend would be best. The first weekend is Margot's first birthday party.

Trail Gear or Marlin 67 inch sliders fit a 60/62 ( on the 62 you have to worry about the cat being in the way) I plan on going this route since it would probably the cheapest and easiest way. 135 for the sliders and 19 for the mounting kit

That's what I used on my 60 and they worked fine. Anyone is welcome to measure them for plans for theirs... I might get some Cruiser time in the next few days, so let me know if you want some measurements. You can see more details here: IH8MUD Forums - View Single Post - Biography of a Bull

I found the steelies I was looking for...now just have to go pick them up and finish stuffing the envelope for the lift and get it ordered. If the money permits prior to gsmtr would someone mind if I hop in line or are dates set in stone?
