It is time to get UC's HAMOMs (Help a Member of the Month) going again.

HAMOMs are great - we meet at a member's house or garage and work for a day only on their Cruiser. It is a great way to get a bunch of work done and get a Cruiser rolling again.

Everyone who wants a chance to host a HAMOM and have a bunch of us come wrench on your cruiser and help you out post up. We have had several very successful HAMOMs over the past year or so.

Stipulations to the HAMOM go something like this: as host you will provide some beverages (read: BEER) and a lunch/dinner for all those wrenching after some good hard work, usually just some sitting by the grill with a few burgers or dogs - nothing fancy or costly. We also ask that since you have time to get ready that you be prepared with everything you think will be needed. Lastly everyone should have fun and try to learn from whats being done. Outside of that there isn't much to it just some good wrenching and fellowship around your Cruiser!

:bounce::bounce2:

Potential Volunteers!
Heather - Piggie assembly
Dave - misc stuff
Juice (that would be me) - Drop rebuilt 2F into Pig
Carp - TBI, paint, desmog, locker, gears
Jay - paint
Matt - hood paint and lift install

UPDATE!!! (see below)

I wrestled with how to choose months for everyone. Last time names were drawn out of a hat - nice and random. I thought it might be a good idea this time to assign months by need (who has a Cruiser that is immobile and needs a HAMOM to be mobile) - but I wanted to be impartial...so the wife drew names out of my fleece garage hat and here is what we have. Note - if anyone else wants to get in on the action just post up with what you want done.

Juice - March 14
Heather - April 18
Dave - May - month before GSMTR - can we do the HAMOM early in the month to allow individual prep time for GSMTR?
Matt - June - GSMTR month
Jay - July
Carp - August

The first weekend that I originally set aside for HAMOMs was March 14th. Past March we haven't set dates for any events besides GSMTR.

Feel free to trade months. We can move around as we need.

I had thought each person in line could take the next, following month - but we don't have to stick with that and can skip HAMOMs for a month if needed.

What cha think?

I'll start planning another club 'type' HAMOM around Feb or Mar. As soon as I get all of my 2F parts back from the machine shop and ready to go I'll host a 2F reassembly day. It will be good to show everyone the internals of a 2F. We can also discuss the parts I chose (and why).

Heather (k9crazy) will need a HAMOM soon too to put her Piggie back together. That will also probably be after the first of the year.

Is anyone up for January?

Let me do some parts hunting and accounting and I'll get back to you about Jan. I would like to put TBI on the 60 and desmog. Maybe trade in 4.10's and lockers or something. It may be a spring event.

As an aside, I think if we could work with a local paint shop (maybe a community college with paint booths), it would be cool to do a yearly PHAtMOM (Painting Help A Member of the Month) (the t makes it look better and is catchier.)

A desmog would be great for members to see. Lots of old desmog equip doesn't work much anyways and bleeds power. Could we do a TBI in a day???

Two thumbs up on the paint thing.... would love to get the 60 done and not by maaco as is the budget.....

I have a decent sized shop that we can use once i get finished cleaning it out and insulating it. I have a few things to do to the 62 also.

Dave

I should have the piggy back in the next 2 weeks, cruiser gods willing. Some of the guys on MUD around the area have offered to help me retreive her if I am not successful getting her finished up and in my carport on my own.

That being said, I'd love to do a HAMOM soon. December or January would be great...but FREAKING COLD. I will have to hang up a tarp to close off the carport and bring out the patio heater.

Sounds good - how to properly apply paint would be a good lesson for all. We would need to see how to manage doing prep and paint in a day. Maybe you could do prep ahead of time, we could go over prep and then shoot some paint...

I'll put you in the list!

I have a heater that rocks (it is Michigan approved!) As long as it wasn't too windy we should be golden.

I need to paint the hood and cowl of the 80 and have a lift to put on it as well.

Dude give me a call and we'll have that lift put on your 80 in an hour or less, depending on bolts... Did my last one myself with no help in about 2 hrs

Will do when I get the $ for shocks. Hoping by Christmas break. Keep trying to figure what shocks to get as I keep hearing contradictory stories.

I'm not sure if we can do TBI in a day. But the desmog could probably be done in a day. It's looking like that's all I will be able to get done this winter, as I might be spending money on the :princess:'s ride. TBI is still up in the air, need to do some research.

Bumpity bump bump!

Anybody got any more ideas or thoughts?

We have some good HAMOM possibilities including a Piggie reassembly, 2F build, desmog, locker install, maybe some paint and a TBI too!

Does anyone else want to jump in line?

I would be willing to help do anything, If im not workin.
I have a plasma cutter and a mig welder at my disposal, along with a cherry picker and other random garage goodies.

I am available on sundays to this, I have not done painting, but have rebuilt axels, front and rear, installed 10-15 lifts, can take anything apart..., have a portable plasma, semi portable welder

what about doing a "build a slider" weekend maybe do a group buy on 2x4 or 3x4 box steel, and some pipe/tubing, plate or angle depending on how people want the slider mounted they could source the ubolts I see an assembly line something like this:

one measures and one cuts the square stock, cuts flat bar for the ends and the welding station welds them up, then a fitting team sets them in place and figures the connecting pipes/method

bend the tubing, attach tubing

a grinding smoothing team

a painting team (the real beer drinkers,,,)

then install

ok that sounds complicated for a group thing,
.

maybe we could restrict it to armour for one vehicle, sliders, and rear quarter protection, and or bending some pipe for a bumper,,, a combo bending pipe/tube class/outfit someones cruiser how to build sliders???

Bumpity Bump Bump and a Bump

Last time we drew names from a hat to get our HAMOM 'volunteers' in line. We can do that this time or be a bit more flexible if anyone really needs help first.

I would like to have a HAMOM in Feb or Mar to drop in my rebuilt 2F and get the Piggie back on the road for plenty of shakedown time before GSMTR.

Looks like we have a lift install, locker install, TBI setup, and some painting too.

What does everyone think?

I had a week off work and took care of a bunch of my stuff.... still have a long list but not sure if it is stuff for a HAMOM.
My list
Sliders (would be in for a group build if we want)
front and rear bumpers
dual battery
secondary fuse and relay block
desmog and new exhaust
repair gutter sealant

Not sure what order they are going to get taken care of in....

That sounds like a good HAMOM to me. HAMOMs can focus on the needs of one club member - they don't have to be a club HAMOM like the front axle rebuild. It is nice to do something that people can learn from and a desmog, dual battery and sliders would rock.

I need to fab up some rear sliders (quarter panel protection really) but mine is very simple - just a mount welded onto the rear bumper.
