I like the idea of running a "club channel". 146.460 was kind of a random pick but I thought I'd read somewhere people were using it for trail duty. I haven't had my radio on most of the time around town but am starting to keep it on more.
So I second the motion!!

146.520 is the national simplex frequency so lots of hams scan that frequency will be listing.
146.460 is the club simplex frequency in billings. it doesn't get a lot of use most local guys use the repeaters.

It sounds like there may be an exam session the Gallatin Ham Radio Club meeting on Thursday October 4th. It looks like the exam will start at 6 pm and the meeting will run from 7 pm to 9 pm. If you want to get your license, this would be a good opportunity. Try the Tech exam at HamExam.org: Technician Practice Exam. If you are interesting in taking the exam, it would be a good idea to contact them ahead of time. Too funny. I watched part of that ARRL video a few weeks ago and holy crap that was painful. Almost gave up entirely.

Found a video series on Youtube from W4EEY that was much easier to follow. Maybe you've already found it. He has recorded classes for all three license classes. The quizes on QRZ.com are helpful too.

Good luck tomorrow. (I heard there are something like 20 people taking exams tomorrow).

I've been checking the FCC database every day and still no sign of it.. seems kinda odd that it's taking over a week. That being said, i'm going to change my call sign as soon as it's assigned to be K2-BZK (which is available) so if you want to put that in the list ahead of time i'm sure it would be fine.

I 'm a new member to 406 Cruisers and to the Gallatin Ham Radio Club. Just curious if any 406 cruiser guys also belong to the GHRC? Thinking not, since their membership is pretty small. But figured I'd ask. It would be fun to talk radios with guys primarily using mobile setups.

I've gone to a couple of GHRC meetings and learned a bit. They have helped me program my radio among other things, super handy to have all the repeater frequencies programmed in. I have a Yaesu programming cable if anyone wants to borrow it. Since I'm a new HAM, the radio is usually on in the car and sometimes at home.
