Merry Christmas everyone! Been lurking for abit and more recently registered an account. Although I have many toyotas including a 2020 Tundra Platinum and a 2015 4Runner Trail, I am primarily here for the FJ40 content. I grew up in a mid 70's International Scout II and that was actually my first car I drove as a teenager in the mid to late 80's. Also in the late 80's, my father had a Mitsubishi Montero that was moderately modified (cams, suspension, wheels/tires) that we took on a wonder trip over tincup pass that I still remember to this day.... I wont be restoring an international Scout anytime soon, but my vintage love for those vehicles plus by current love of Toyotas has me dreaming about FJ40s. I am probably a few years off but it may take that much time to learn and find just the right vehicle. Who knows, perhaps the desire will wane and the 4runner may fulfil that itch. Regardless, I'm here along for the ride. Looking forward to some great stories and amazing images. Cheers!

while 4runners are cool they’ll scratch a different itch than a 40 will. keep you’re eye out. they’re out there and a ton of fun to work on no matter how you want it to turn out. keep us all posted with photos when the right one comes along. good luck and welcome!

Welcome to the 40 community. I too had a 1977 Scout ll and regret selling it. One thing to keep in mind is a 40 will never be what a 4 Runner is and will never be what a Scout was. Both of those would and will run interstate speeds and both have modern comforts. A 40 is loud, slow and primitive, which is why everyone here loves them. As long as you take it for what it is and enjoy that they will be a great adventure.

Sounds perfect. As much as i love the heads up display and heated steering wheel of my camry, i desire the visceral experience of something like an FJ40 to cruise along back roads and explore Northern WI / UP of Michigan while losing myself in a time capsule. 😎 Thx for the warm welcome!
