H55F Transfer Case Extra Spacer

Hi guys, I am changing the front and rear companion seals on my transfer case, and found a spacer behind the front seal that was not listed in the manual. I have circled its position on the manual page below. It has got bent up tabs on it that I am concerned will scrape up the back of the new seal since it is splined to the shaft. I need to know if I should leave it in or take it out. See pics below. Thanks,
